For those of you who have just stumbled upon my channel: Hello and Welcome! My name is Kate and I have a passion for sharing beauty tidbits from the past. I can often be found with my nose buried in an antique formula book, working out how to bring these historical beauty recipes to life. When not creating beauty products (cold cream, eyeshadows, hair tonics, etc), I love delving into the small and mundane things of everyday life for women around the turn of the century (how did they brush their hair, what was in their purses, what did they use for shampoo?).
All my videos are well researched and often based off of tutorials from authentic period sources (such as old magazines and books from the time). While I cover a variety of eras, I tend to focus on period from about 1860 through to 1940.
Please join me as I delve into the world of vintage hairstyling, beauty potions, as well as a smattering of kitchen recipes, fashion, and DIY projects.

It’s a week late and shorter than usual, but I should have a video out later today. I had a bit of a rough weekend last week, and it has thrown my schedule right off-track. (The brakes on my van started to go while I was driving on the highway, and while we made it back and everyone is ok, it was pretty unnerving. The brake line held together until I was safe in the driveway, and then basically exploded!). Hopefully things will get back to normal by next month. Thanks for your patience!

Hope everyone is having a good 2023 so far! I'm back from my little winter-break and have a new video out reviewing my past 2 years of recipes and makes. (I would have kept it to one-year of recipes if I had of realized how many things I make in a year!)
PS: I didn't get around to making Edwardian "nut turkey" over the holidays. Maybe next year! 🦃

Any French speakers know if "Lessive de soude à 30° Baumé ou D" is either sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide? I'm trying to translate a 1930s vanishing cream recipe but my high-school-level French isn't quite cutting it 🤔... (I'm also wondering what Glycomine M. D. is, but I suspect it might be a brand name of a product given the context.)

Whew, am I tired this week! I think I partied much too hard last week for my 32nd birthday (and by "partied too hard" I mean I had a tea party with friends followed by a week of splashing in the lake at my grandmother's cottage 😆🥳). Regular video is postponed until next week. It will be worth the wait though. It's cake mascara time!

1920s Bug Spray Update: I'll have to bring that bottle whenever I go to the woods! I still have no idea if it works or not, but every time I bring it there are no mosquitos! It's clearly a good luck charm if nothing else 🤣

Looks like this week's video may be a bit late. We were without power for a few days after a big storm blew down a lot of trees in my area, and it's thrown me right off schedule. I'm away over the weekend and won't have the video done in time to pre-schedule it, so it will likely be next Tuesday or later by the time it's uploaded.
On the plus side, it looks like the bugs might be pretty bad this weekend so I may finally be able to properly test last year's 1920s bug spray. I'll let you know how it goes! 😅
