Canada has recently introduced several significant changes to its international student program, impacting study permits, work eligibility, and cost of living requirements.

1. Temporary Cap on Study Permits: Canada will impose a two-year cap on new study permits, reducing the number issued by approximately 35% to around 360,000 for 2024. This measure aims to address infrastructure challenges and ensure the quality of education and support for international students. The cap will not apply to current students renewing their permits, nor to those pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees .
