It grew out of running and helping in workshops and courses on Leadership and Change at Kent, Reading, Aston, Advance HE, with Doug Parkin, Lyn McBriar and others.

It grew out of mentoring new heads of department and other leaders who get thrown in at the deep end and wrestle with what leadership is, how to do it, and how to do it without breaking your life with long hours and stress.

And it grew out of one specific relationship with a brilliant colleague...

I wrote down the most important things from those workshops and mentoring relationships and turned it into a book.
