Caught in a complex tangle between lovesick poet and misanthropic nomad, Crywolf’s vast cinematic landscapes and sehnsucht-filled melodies often pull at a listeners’ sanity as much as their heartstrings.
The primary project of Justin Taylor Phillips, a producer, vocalist, and multi instrumentalist from Los Angeles, CA, Crywolf was one of the first pioneers of the “Post-EDM” movement. His concept albums have garnered their own unique following, with a loyalty rarely seen in the world of electronic music, solidifying his spot as one of the electronic world’s most enduring and compelling artistic talents.
His newest release “exuvium” a followup to “widow” is a genre-bending journey through an apocalyptic particle accelerator, splitting the line between euphoric crescendos and melancholic despair to its thinnest, almost indistinguishable form. An experience so unlike any auditory other - the album seems completely untethered to the preconceived notions that have bound works before it.

It’s finally time. I’ll be traveling around the United States and Canada this fall playing intimate acoustic sets in cathedrals, performing songs from across my entire catalog. No two set lists will be the exact same, and I might bring out a few special guests as well 😘

After two years, the new album is finally out!
So many of the people around me have had an incredibly difficult last couple of years. Some of them have gone through the most emotionally challenging moments of their lives. Surrounded by so much grief, suffering and sorrow, I found myself filled with the desire to ease their pain, even just for a moment. To hold them in a place where everything else disappears, where they can finally be at peace. I realized I needed the same thing.
That's what this album is. An expression of that desire. A collection of lullabies I made for those close to me. A comedown from the insanity of OBLIVIØN, a soft moment you can escape into, one where you feel safe and known, one where time itself seems to halt and the world becomes beautifully, perfectly still.
I hope it wraps around you like a blanket. I hope it is a salve upon your wounds. I hope you can feel the warmth of its embrace, even in the midst of the apocalypse.

We live in an industry still dominated by labels. Album releases are expensive, and most artists can't fund them alone, so they sign away their rights, usually forever. The stories I could tell you of artist friends getting royally screwed over after making that decision are endless. Careers built over a decade ruined because they overlooked the fine print or assumed the label had their interests in mind. They lose creative control and give veto power to a group of people that are primarily focused on profit.
I'll always make the art that is fully authentic to me, and refuse to compromise on that. If I want to explore new directions, I don't want label execs stopping me. If a fan wants to use my music, I don't want them sued by a label. Losing ownership of my work is artistically nauseating.
But refusing labels means less support. It's like missing a crucial role that offers artistic input and financial stability.
l've always romanticized the idea of patrons, like in Da Vinci's era. People that love your work and want to come alongside it, not just in a peripheral sense but in a way that really makes a difference, a way that allows them to look at the finished product and feel like they had a real part in it.
So that's why we started a Patreon. It will be a way to get you guys a lot more involved with everything that goes into the art. This is where all my longer form BTS stuff, tutorials, as well as demos I didn't end up using, music videos that never released, stems for various tracks, raw ATMOS files, and more.
There are a bunch of tiers based on what you want, from general access all the way to a fully fledged Patron role - an official member of the team with Executive Producer credit on all albums, communicating with me personally throughout the process to offer your feedback, as well as getting backstage passes for everything and just generally all the perks that members of my team have.
There's already a bunch of stuff on there including stem packs, behind the scenes videos about my album creation and vocal process, an unfinished music video from Cataclasm, unused demos from Skeletons/Cataclasm/Runaway EP, and more.
