A “Short” posted 373 days ago recently started gaining traction again on YouTube. Who knows why, but the video has been unlisted to avoid any more confusion. There is no Crashy the Cold Front expected anytime soon. 😣

September 10th | Happy Thursday! As stated in yesterday's video, I'm in the midst of travel this morning/afternoon. Seeing as it's rude to record rather long videos in the cabin of an aircraft, I'll have no regular video this morning/afternoon. We'll be keeping a close eye on increased popup storms this afternoon/evening as a weak boundary moves south into North Texas, Texoma, Northwest Texas, and western Texas.

The National Hurricane Center will begin advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Five (formerly AL97), located in the northwestern Gulf, at 10 AM CDT. We expect tropical storm warnings for the Upper Texas Gulf Coast, but the primary concern will be increased chances of heavy rain. David will have a detailed briefing out by 11 AM CT with the latest forecast.

8/30 715PM - Odds went up. The National Hurricane Center now gives Invest 97L a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm before it reaches the coast Tuesday.

Whether it gets a name matters a lot less than what it brings. Heavy rain, gusty winds, quick spin-up tornadoes, coastal flooding and rising flash flood risk are all on the table for the Upper Texas coast and southwest Louisiana. Houston, Galveston, Beaumont and Port Arthur are in the middle of the target area right now.

Details are still moving. Tropical storm watches could go up for parts of the coast as soon as tonight or Monday morning. Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to fly the system Monday morning, and that flight is when we'll finally get real data instead of satellite guesses on how strong this thing is and where it's going.

If you're on or near the coast, Monday is the day to clear drains, move what you don't want sitting in water, and know whether you flood. Don't wait for Tuesday to figure that out.

We'll have updates as the forecast sharpens.

Happy Saturday! Rain chances are back to 'isolated' today across the Texas Gulf Coast, South Texas, and East Texas. Most folks will stay dry. Temperature-wise? It's August, so it's hot, but not as hot as earlier this week. Sorry, Tulia. Not sure why our map has you in the 60s, but that ain't happening. ~David
