Many of the newer LEGO Technic sets seem to prioritize appearance over engineering. They look great on display, but the mechanical complexity that once made Technic special feels like it's fading away.
Older Technic models were packed with clever gear trains, innovative mechanisms, and functions that challenged builders to understand how things worked. Today, many sets feel simplified, with fewer interesting functions hidden beneath the bodywork.
For a theme built on engineering and mechanics, that's disappointing to see.
Am I the only one who misses the days when LEGO Technic was more about functions than looks!
The Summer 2026 LEGO Technic lineup continues with four new sets arriving this August. Here’s a quick overview:
First, 42233 Mighty Machines introduces something new at just €4.5/$4.5, possibly Technic’s take on blind-bag collectibles. Details are still unclear, but the builds look fun and may include some interesting new parts.
Next, 42234 Dodge Viper GTS-R joins the car transporter-style lineup at €65/$65. It features the classic white-and-blue design and looks well-proportioned. It’s also tied to Forza Horizon 6, hinting at crossover content.
We also get 42235 Ferrari 488 Pista, priced the same and part of the same game collaboration. While it may resemble last year’s FXX K at first glance, there will likely be notable differences.
Finally, the biggest surprise: 42239 Batmobile Tumbler. At €190/$190, this LEGO Technic Control+ set is expected to include the newer all-in-one hub seen in recent supercars. It shows promising shaping, working lights, and likely functional steering—though full details are still unknown.
That’s it for the first wave—more details and reveals coming soon.
