I’m Pat! Captain at a large suburban fire department in Michigan and a mechanical engineer with a background in R&D, holding multiple patents on electric vehicle technology.
This channel is built for firefighters, first responders, and safety professionals facing the growing risks from EVs, micromobility devices, and battery energy storage systems.
With nearly 20 years in the fire service and a career developing and testing EV battery structures, I bring a rare perspective that bridges fireground reality with the engineering behind the tech.
Here, you’ll get training-focused content, real-world incident breakdowns, and practical advice to help you make better decisions when it counts.
I work with FSRI, IAFC, SAE, and other industry leaders to stay ahead of the curve and bring that knowledge straight to you.

Going international! I'll be heading to South Korea in a few weeks to speak at the K-BATTERY SHOW at KINTEX.
My session, "First Responder BESS Fires: Lessons Learned," is set for September 10th, 13:30–13:55 and will bring the fire service perspective on battery energy storage system hazards to a global stage.
Excited to represent the first responder community and share what we're learning on the front lines of lithium-ion and BESS incidents.

With FSRI's full Electric Vehicle Fire Report now released, there's been a lot of controversy on fire blankets. This video breaks down the hazards involved and what the data actually supports (and doesn't) when it comes to using fire blankets on EV fires. Worth a watch if you're making equipment or tactics decisions based on this report.

Spent the day at Fire Rover filming content on their fire suppression and detection technology for waste and recycling facilities. Impressive operation!
Video coming soon. Stay tuned.

This channel is growing fast!
September 30, 2023 was the date it hit 1,000 subscribers and it just hit 86,000 yesterday! A huge thanks to everyone who's subscribed and especially to those who've been here since the beginning. My goal is to hit 100,000 by the end of the year, but it would be pretty cool if I could hit that goal 3 years after monetization. Currently, I've been gaining around 5,400 subscribers per month.
So what do you think? Will the channel hit 100,000 by September 30th?

There have been quite a few incidents over the last few days. I'm on vacation, but when I get back I'll cover the explosion in Miami, the cold storage fire in LA, and an interesting battery incident that I responded to. Be ready for some great content towards the end of next week!

I had a great time on The Volly House Podcast! We went deep on lithium-ion batteries, EVs, and battery energy storage systems, tech that's changing the fire service and here to stay.

Is an ammo can really the safest place to store lithium-ion batteries?
A lot of people in the comments seem to think so.
I’m working on a video to actually put that idea to the test.
Any guesses what might happen? It could get… interesting.
@theslowmoguys - what type of frame rate would you recommend?
