The famous royal carpet, commonly known as the “Khusrau Carpet”, which came into the hands of the Muslims after the conquest of Mada’in, is described in historical traditions as being very large (approximately 50×50 meters or more), and was decorated with gold, silver and precious stones in the form of a royal garden. The exact value of this carpet is not known, but it is considered to be a very great treasure. According to tradition, it was cut and distributed during the reign of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) according to the principle of spoils of war, so that the entire treasure would not be limited to a few individuals, but would reach the common deserving and the fighters. In this distribution, Hatrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also received a piece, which is later described in some traditions as a reminder of asceticism and the impermanence of the world, however, there are different historical traditions regarding the details of this incident.
