In 2014 I met with an accident which left me bedridden for months. This was the time when I was completely off the gym and I hit 100kg again. I had no option left, except following a diet regimen. I lost 20 kg initially, but I regained all of it in the next 6 months. I was frustrated. To make things worse, I was diagnosed with cervical spondylitis and a ligament tear in my knee. The gym was out of the question.
It was then that I decided to unlock this weight-loss mystery myself. I quit a high paying corporate job, the kind that one bags after an MBA from a Tier-1 college, and took up MSc in fitness and nutrition.
I worked with Manipal Hospital Bangalore and many health and fitness centers before venturing out on my own and started Fitelo. That’s how I learned how by being mindful of what you eat, you can maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Cravings in winters are unavoidable! But we can remove the ‘guilty’ part from our list of guilty pleasures. We have made a list of healthier ‘meetha’ alternatives that you can have in place of the high-calorie ones.
Our favourite gajrela has just 154 calories. What are winters without homemade Gajrela? Incomplete! So you can have 2 bowls of this delicacy in place of 1 serving of fat-laden Moongdal halwa.
Peanuts are not just full of fat but high in calories too! Instead, having dry-roasted makhanas in the same quantity will not just provide you with healthy fibers that support weight loss.
In place of 2 chashni-laden gulab jamuns, have a bowl of steaming hot kheer. So, you not just nourish yourself with the nutrients present in milk and rice, but also cut off the maida you get from gulab jamuns.
Jalebi again is a sugar-loaded sweet which will give you empty calories. Instead, go the hatke path and indulge in lip-smacking flavourful kulfi with just half the amount of calories.
Lastly, if you want some meetha snacking options, have marunda or puffed rice balls instead of gachak or peanut chikki. Marunda is a much lighter snack compared to peanut gachak!
BOTTOMLINE- These are just the healthier, low-calorie options. So, if you are looking for weight loss, you can have these instead. But, make sure you do not over-indulge as moderation is key.

WHAT IS GLYCEMIC INDEX?🤔
It's a scale that evaluates no. of carbs in foods on a range of 0 -100, indicating how quickly it raises blood sugar after consumption. GI=khane me present carbohydrates ki quality.
On that basis, foods are categorised as Low GI [1-55], Medium GI [56-69], and High GI foods [70-100].
WHY IS GI IMPORTANT? 🤷🏻♀️
High GI value means risk of Diabetes, obesity, hypertension etc.
So, even if an individual is unaffected by diabetes, he must combine low GI foods with medium/high GI foods.⚡
Sugar in grapes is more (16g) than a banana(12g) or watermelon(6g), BUT its effect on spiking blood sugar is the least. Same with watermelon jiska sugar content sabse kam hai, but GI is the highest i.e. 72. 😲
PACKAGED FOODS AND GI
Processed foods have more GI than natural. Kese? Because they have glucose, jiska GI hai 100! Speechless.
SO GRAPES KHAU GUILT-FREE?🤭
There are combinations jinpe aapki diet customized hoti hai. We dietitians know what suits you best, depending on your metabolism, physical activity, and medical condition.
CAN WE HAVE WATERMELON / GRAPES IN DIABETES?
We agree watermelon's GI is high but nothing to worry about because the Glycemic Load (measures how fast carbs in a serving of a food raise blood sugar) is 4 [1-10 are low GL foods] which is low as the carbohydrate content of watermelon is small. So, while your blood sugar levels shooot up, they won't remain elevated for long. Similarly, the GL of grapes is also low.
So, it is safe to eat in moderation by individuals with diabetes. Watermelon and other high-GI fruits, on the other hand, should be eaten with foods that are high in healthy fats and protein.

Indian packaged food is the worst for our health. We took into consideration the bestselling Lays i.e. the Classic Salted ones in America and India and noticed something unusual.
Ab mostly log carbs, total fat aur calories to dekh lete hain. But there is something that is overlooked, but quite dangerous. Humne vo pata karlia. It is saturated fat, high levels of which are responsible for heart diseases like
1. Blockage in arteries,
2. High levels of LDL or bad cholesterol,
3. Heart attack, and even
4. Stroke.
America k lays me keval 5.35 g fat per 100 g and the same amount of Lays sold in India have double amount of saturated fats!
American lays are made from Sunflower oil, corn oil, and Canola oil. These are healthy oil options.
For instance- Sunflower oil contains monounsaturated fat (20%) and is low in saturated fat (11%), making it an overall heart-healthy choice.
Similarly, Canola oil is widely regarded as a "healthy" oil due to its low saturated fat content (7%). It is high in monounsaturated fat (63%).
Indian lays, on the other hand, are made from the deadliest oil of all -Palm Oil! Palm oil contains roughly equal amounts of saturated and unsaturated fat. According to the American Diabetes Association, individuals who have diabetes should limit their intake of saturated fat (because they are at a higher risk for heart disease) and avoid saturated fat sources such as palm oil. Even if you are mixing rice bran oil with palm oil, which is better, zada difference nhi hoga kyunki ultimately palm oil to ap consume kar hi rahe ho na!
BOTTOMLINE- The same big brands that sell the same products in their home countries, Lays, for example, are smartly fooling us. Please be aware and keep a check on the ingredient section as well as the nutrition label. Baki, we are here to help you keep your healthy options sorted yaar.

We are in the coldest phase of the season where you are just finding a variety of snacks/desserts/comfort foods to curb your cravings in this weather.😋
One such desi snack is Pinni! If you google Pinni, you will find a number of articles suggesting the health benefits of pinni and reasons why you should add pinni to your winter diets. But no one is telling you the truth that if you overindulge in pinnis.😫 It can raise your blood cholesterol level, sugar levels and weight gain is inevitable.😰
We went ahead and compared one piece of atta pinni with a regular vanilla ice cream cone and the results were shocking.😳 A pinni has thrice the number of calories, 4 times the amount of fat and more sugar than the ice cream cone.😱 Just imagine yourself consuming 3-4 pinnis a day, you will end up eating 5-6 tsp of sugar and fat that might be more than a meal you consume on a regular basis. 😳
So do I have to skip pinnis this winter?🤨
No. You can still enjoy your favourite pinni, considering you are not overindulging and having them as a snack as they are already high in fat, sugar and it has the optimal amount of protein too. 😇
So, have pinni as a meal alone or pair it with a glass of hot milk.

That's the Power of DIET.
Struggling to lose weight with Hypothyroid??
Neha from Canada came from 76 to 66kg and lost many inches from the belly!
Neha reached out to us in the middle of the second wave. Her concerns were increased weight due to a sedentary lifestyle, a SITTING JOB and LOTS OF OUTSIDE FOOD which led to WEIGHT GAIN and specially BELLY FAT. She set a goal for herself - to get in shape & to get rid of all her medical concerns.
Being a foodie, She loves to eat outside and due to her hectic schedule, outside eating was inevitable and She has no time to exercise or follow a strict diet routine.
Adding to that Neha was also suffering from Hypothyroidism and hypertension, due to her profession she has to wear a mask for a long time and also started developing skin allergies.
We worked with Neha and created a customized diet plan for her. All meals were easy to cook and her timings were flexible to adjust to his busy routine. It also included lots of cheat and outside options.
It was her motivation, Neha lost 10 KGs in just 100 without visiting the gym or taking any medicine. Neha also lost significant inches from the belly.
We intend to continue working with Neha until all the extra weight from her body is gone and She learns how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Way to go Neha - let's keep going! We are already proud of you. 🙂

The biggest WEIGHT LOSS Mistake you are doing is eating Digestive Cookies😲(Only Loaded with Sugar and Preservatives and nothing else). Give yourself a favor and eat Makhana, Homemade Bhelpuri as a snacking food😇.
