(F1 AU Zen And Yoichi backstory)

*AFO and Yoichi used to live in the same house. Their father, Jan De Versie, is Dutch,and their mother is Kodoku Shigaraki.

After their parents divorced, AFO and Yoichi were separated.
AFO (Zen) lived with their father, Jan—a former F1 driver who retired because of a past accident. Since childhood, Jan trained Zen harshly, to the point of being abusive. He wanted to “build” a winner out of Zen, no matter the method.

Zen was scolded and beaten so often that once he wore his helmet for four hours straight because he was afraid of being hit.
Another time, after losing a karting race, his father punished him by leaving him at a gas station—Zen had to walk home by himself.

Because of this upbringing, Zen grew into an unstoppable talent. His father’s impossible dream became Zen’s burden—but still, Zen did want to become a racer, even if sometimes he didn’t feel like it was truly his own desire.

Meanwhile, Yoichi also dreamed of becoming an F1 driver. But after the divorce, he lived with their mother, and financially, things were very difficult. Even so, Yoichi and his mother didn’t give up. His mother sacrificed a lot during Yoichi’s karting years, taking huge risks just so he could keep chasing his dream.

Formula 1 isn’t a cheap sport—it's usually only accessible to the extremely wealthy. Even starting in karting requires massive costs. But Yoichi knew that several drivers had made it from nothing, so he kept going.

The brothers eventually reunited in the racing world—but as rivals.
Zen missed his little brother terribly, and Yoichi missed him too, but because they were both competitive, things became... complicated.
Still, off-track, Zen was extremely protective of Yoichi.

During their karting days in the WSK Euro Series, they once had a collision. Zen, clearly annoyed after being pushed off track, got interviewed. Yoichi, standing next to him, said:
“Nothing, just an incident on the race.”

Zen repeated it with his own accent, sounding like:
“An inchident.”
(It became their little meme.)

When they moved up to Formula categories, big teams began noticing both of them.

Zen, with his extreme talent, caught Red Bull’s attention immediately. He skipped Formula 4 and Formula 2 entirely and jumped straight into an F1 seat.

Yoichi, however, had to climb the whole ladder—Formula 4, Formula 3, Formula 2—before finally catching the eye of a major team: Ferrari, where he eventually earned a seat.

Yoichi sometimes gets jealous of his older brother because Zen keeps dominating the races. Even the professionals admit that this rookie is “too talented,” and… well, they’re right.

Yoichi is talented too, but unfortunately he drives for Ferrari — and if you're an F1 fan, you know exactly how depressing that can be. He barely gets podiums, completely different from Zen.

Red Bull has its issues as well, but Zen is so insanely skilled that even the car’s engineering problems can’t stop him from winning.

Every team in F1 has tried to recruit Zen, but they just can’t get him — because zen wants to stay at Red Bull.

Meanwhile, Nezu, Mercedes (Very very good team)’ team principal, is always so obvious about wanting to steal Zen for their team. 😂

And for context: before Zen entered F1, Yagi was already racing. Zen joined later and replaced Dave as his teammate.

But ever since a wave of new rookies debuted — like Tenko, Izuku, and especially Bakugo — the competition has gotten wild. Bakugo, who races for McLaren, is constantly on the edge of winning and dominating races. Of course, McLaren’s F1 car is insanely strong, practically on the same level as Mercedes, and way ahead of most teams.

(Everyone kinda feel sorry for Bakugo tho,cus of papaya rules LMAO,ifykyk)

Still, Zen isn’t someone you can defeat easily. Good luck trying. LMAO.

For context, Zen is still racing to this day. Many older drivers have retired and been replaced by the new generation, but Zen is still in his prime — not too old, not too young, right in that strong middle-age zone.

As an extra note, Zen is extremely temperamental on the track — pure fire, zero patience — but off the track he’s more cocky, teasing, and sometimes even intimidating without meaning to be.

A good example is the incident with Hawks during the 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix. After their collision cost Zen a guaranteed win, he completely snapped. Once the race ended, Zen marched straight to Hawks, shoved him several times, and started yelling. Because of that confrontation, the FIA handed Zen two days of public service as punishment.

So, in the artwork you saw, there are a lot of detailed elements—like Toshi and Zen’s helmets.
The helmet Toshi is wearing there is the one he used when he was still Zen’s teammate.
It’s his 2018 helmet, the year he was Zen’s teammate for the last time (the one on the left / the slightly longer-shaped helmet).

And the circuit you see in the background is a track from the Netherlands (Zen’s home country): Zandvoort.
It was on that circuit that Toshi got his severe injury…
The injury was bad enough that after that season, his performance kept declining, which eventually led to him leaving Red Bull.
So yeah, he moved to another team—and because he no longer felt balanced or suited for the racing world, he started considering other options besides being an F1 driver.

Just like in real life… Zen never really had a teammate who was funny, goofy, sweet, easy-going, and not overly competitive.
But because of Yagi, the ultra-competitive side Zen is famous for toned down a bit.

Whenever Toshi was behind or had even a small problem, Zen would always insist on waiting or asking about him over team radio:

“Is he okay?”

Out of all the teammates he’s ever had, Zen learned the most from Toshi.
They’ve known each other since the very start of their Formula 1 careers, even though they weren’t that close back then.
