she/her/hers

Brace yourself for the non-magical yet equally transformative world of Gwendolyn "G" R. Houston-Jack, a.k.a. BlackPowerBunny. Gwendolyn is not just a name; it's a beacon of authenticity inviting you to a soiree where the wine flows as freely as the conversation. Imagine clinking glasses of Chardonnay while discussing the finesse of a vintage piece of fashion or unraveling the secrets to balancing family, self-care, and dreams over a hearty laugh. That's the essence of my world.

My content is like a well-curated closet—everything has its place, and negativity is out of style. Here, you'll savor the rich tapestry of life's experiences woven with threads of empowerment and enlightenment. There's "Small Biz Bites," where I feature small business owners and creatives. There's also "Guuuuurl...Listen," where I tackle women's issues with a dash of sass. From self-love to societal taboos, nothing is off the table.

Let's keep it a buck: it's hard out here in these streets. The cost of living is so ridiculous that there are far more families living in one household now than 10 years ago.

If an adult child moves back home, set one shared expectation: chores, quiet hours, or contribution. Clarity protects the relationship. You’re not running a full‑service household, and they’re not a teenager anymore. A simple agreement up front keeps the peace and honors everyone’s adulthood. Trust and believe.

The hubs and I are empty nesters, yet we're not. The son is here, but we hardly ever see him. Even with us on the other side of the house, there are still times when a conversation may need to be had.

If you have adult kids living with you, what expectation is hardest to set?

Let’s talk about growth today. I recently reached a major milestone on YouTube. I reached 1000 subscribers! Trust me, I'm crazy excited about this, but I've been celebrating all along the journey.

Growth happens daily. It's not always loud or prepped for the highlight-reel. And it doesn't have a size...I have no love for "big" wins that everyone claps for. I’m talking about the quiet milestones. The ones nobody sees but you. The moments you chose not to give up. The moment you chose yourself. The moment you tried again...with more wisdom than yesterday. 😁That is growth.

We spend so much time chasing the “next level” that we forget to honor how far we've already come. But every step forward counts. Every lesson counts. Every decision to keep going…that counts. So, this week's Monday Message Challenge is to pause and celebrate your milestones.

💚Finished something you started?
💚Set a boundary you used to avoid?
💚Showed up differently than you did last year—or even last week?

That’s a win. And it deserves to be acknowledged. Don’t wait for the world to celebrate you; celebrate yourself in real time.

Now I want to hear from you: what’s a win you’ve experienced recently? Let’s normalize honoring our growth while we’re still in the middle of becoming. You’re not behind...you’re building. And it shows. 💚

Years of working in retail and education has helped me to done thing fairly well: listen. When it comes to our adults kids, nieces and nephews, I will ask a gazillion questions before I share my thoughts.

Here's my advice: shift from manager to mentor. Ask one question before offering advice. It’s a simple way to show you’re listening, not just directing. Your adult child gets to feel capable, and you get to stay connected without carrying the whole situation on your shoulders. 💛
