Personal Trainers YOU NEED to set client expectations at the start

Getting a new client is a great feeling 🙌 It is vital that before you start working with a new client, you set expectations - what the client can expect from you and what you expect from the client

It is essential to set this out before working with a client, so that the relationship is founded in mutual trust and agreement ✅

Setting up these expectations initially, will help the client know exactly what you can provide them and ultimately, achieve their goals 👌

Although you may be keen to secure clients, it is important to note that not every person that approaches you will be the right fit ❌

When starting out, you want to be as adaptable as you can

However, if someone approaches you and has different expectations to you, even after a discussion, it is important to have an honest conversation with them as not doing so will create friction in the long term

This may mean the client doesn’t achieve their goals and ultimately, your reputation as a trainer being damaged 🤷‍♂️

🤔 Do you go through expectations with your new clients? Let us know in the comments 👇

Monthly vs Packages, who wins?

Last week we did a poll and 70% said they sell monthly coaching
There are pros and cons for both options but we can all agree that fitness and health are for life.

Roll back to 2012 when I used to offer online coaching. I started out selling 8-12 weeks body transformation packages and I got visually amazing results for my clients. The downside was that because there was a start and end date, I put everything on getting great short-term results and not long-term sustainability

The client also looked at it as a quick fix and in their mind, I’m done in 12 weeks. Now don’t get me wrong, at this point I didn’t have a target market, it was anyone that had money to pay me. The majority of those were people who wanted to lose weight and the average duration I kept a client for was probably 12-16 weeks

A combination of changing target markets, working with highly motivated individuals that wanted to get Shredded By Science meant that we had a better target market for the 1-2-1 service we were offering. When we went to a monthly, no contract, cancel anytime model our client duration went to an average of 48-52 weeks

My thoughts, it depends on your target market, you need to meet the market at where they are, it depends on the type of service you offer, 1-2-1 or group ← that depends on the target market btw

Let’s have a nice healthy debate in the comments about what you offer and why?

p.s who remembers us when we were Shredded By Science?
