Navigating the Business of Medicine

As someone who has worked in various roles within the medical field for the past 15 years, I have gained valuable insight into the common mistakes made by medical practice owners when managing their businesses. To help prevent others from repeating these mistakes, I have created this channel aimed at assisting medical practice owners. My ultimate goal is to promote the growth and success of private practice medicine. In my view, the medical industry has become overly institutionalized, resulting in unnecessary challenges and demands. By sharing helpful videos, I hope to contribute to the resurgence of traditional, private-practice medicine.

📢 BIG Telehealth Update for Medicare Providers!

Heads up, everyone—Medicare telehealth flexibilities have officially been extended through September 30, 2025! 🙌

We were all bracing for changes starting April 1st, but thanks to legislation passed on March 6, the current rules will stay in place until the end of September 2025.

💬 What does this mean?

No major changes (yet!)

Keep your current telehealth workflows running

Use this time to prepare for what might become permanent

I’ve linked my go-to resource — telehealth.hhs.gov — in the video description. Bookmark it. Check it monthly. Share it with your team.

📌 New deadlines to track:

🗓️ Sept 30, 2025 = End of current flexibilities

🗓️ Oct 1, 2025 = Potential new rules go live (aligned with the fiscal year)

If you’ve already started prepping for the changes—good job! Keep those plans on standby just in case.

🎥 And if you missed my last video about the Medicare telehealth changes originally scheduled for 2025, make sure to check that out too.

Let’s spread the good news—no last-minute chaos (for now)!

📢 Hiring Staff Without Healthcare Experience – Is It Worth It?

Are you struggling to find qualified staff for your practice? You're not alone. Many practice owners are finding it harder than ever to hire for front office, prior authorization, and even billing positions. But what if you broadened your search beyond candidates with direct healthcare experience?

💡 Why Consider Non-Healthcare Candidates?
There are plenty of roles in a medical practice that don’t require prior healthcare experience. Candidates from busy law firms, mortgage companies, or customer service roles often have transferable skills like:
✅ Strong communication
✅ Multitasking
✅ Handling financial discussions
✅ Attention to detail

The biggest advantage? They come in with a clean slate—no bad habits, no preconceived notions, and you can train them to fit your practice's workflow.

Of course, there are challenges—like training them in healthcare-specific processes and HIPAA compliance. But that’s where structured onboarding and resources come in.

Would you consider hiring someone without healthcare experience? Drop your thoughts in the comments! ⬇️

🚨 Credentialing vs. Group Affiliation – Don’t Get Denied! 🚨

One of the biggest mistakes I see in medical billing? Not verifying a provider’s group affiliation with insurance! Just because a provider is credentialed doesn’t mean they can bill under your group. They must be officially linked to your group contract in the insurance system—otherwise, those claims will be processed as out-of-network.

🔹 Two Effective Dates Matter:
✅ Credentialing Date – When the provider is approved with the insurance.
✅ Group Affiliation Date – When the provider is linked to your practice contract.

If you’re getting “provider not affiliated with the group” denials, this is likely the issue! Always confirm affiliation dates with the payer before scheduling patients.

🚨 Telehealth Rules Are Changing April 1st! Are You Ready? 🚨

Big changes are coming to telemedicine starting April 1, 2025, and if you’re a provider offering telehealth services, you need to be prepared! 🏥💻

Some pandemic-era flexibilities are set to expire, meaning stricter originating site and distant site requirements could impact who can provide telehealth and where patients need to be located. 📍❌

Behavioral health? You’ll still have telehealth access, but new requirements may apply. And if you're outside of behavioral health, your ability to offer telehealth may be changing dramatically! 📅

👉 Watch the full video to understand the updates, how they affect different specialties, and what steps you should take now. Don’t wait until April 1st to find out the hard way!

📌 Check the video description for links to official Medicare updates.

Hey everyone! Jennifer Blevens-Smith here with Integral Clinic Solutions, helping you navigate the business of medicine! 🎥

💰 Patient A/R (Accounts Receivable) – Are You Keeping Up?
Many practices overlook patient collections until it's too late. If you're not monitoring patient balances regularly, you could be missing out on revenue that keeps your practice financially stable—especially during deductible season.

🚨 Key Takeaways from Today’s Video:

✅ Train your front desk staff – They should be confident (not hesitant!) when asking for payments.
✅ Offer payment plans & remind patients of HSA/FSA options – Help them find ways to pay!
✅ Run patient aging reports just like you do for insurance A/R – Know what's outstanding in 30, 60, 90+ days.
✅ Use technology – Patient portals, text/email reminders, and online payments make collections easier.
