The tattoos on their mouths were not random decoration In many ancient cultures from Indigenous tribes to Pacific Islanders to African and Arctic peoples mouth tattoos represented identity, resilience, status, and protection. These markings told the world: “I come from strength. I speak truth I carry the spirit of my people.”
