WRITTEN IN THEIR SOUL: THE STAX SONGWRITER DEMOS is coming June 23! 📝🎶 ‪@Staxrecords‬ and ‪@CraftRecordings‬ are proud to share an amazing new collection of demos from the Stax vaults. The compilation features a whopping 146 tracks — 140 of which have never been released — that spotlight Stax’s legendary roster of songwriters, including Bettye Crutcher, Homer Banks, William Bell, and many more. From early sketches of classic hits to never-before-heard songs with full-blown arrangements, WRITTEN IN THEIR SOUL offers fans a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at Stax’s studio magic.
Available as a 7-CD box set and digital collection, WRITTEN IN THEIR SOUL was compiled by multiple GRAMMY®-winning producer Cheryl Pawelski and includes a new essay by Emmy® and GRAMMY-winning writer/producer Robert Gordon and Stax’s original Director of Publicity and 2x Emmy® winner Deanie Parker.
Happy Birthday, Rufus Thomas! We're remembering the multi-talented singer, comic, tap dancer, songwriter, talent show director, and disc jockey, who came to Stax in 1960 and gave the label its first hit: "Cause I Love You," recorded with his daughter Carla Thomas.
