"There is absolutely no connection between a judge and the disposal rate. It depends on the Bar, how long they want to argue," he said, adding that members of the legal profession must introspect on practices that contribute to delays, including prolonged arguments and frequent adjournments.
Speaking at the 5th edition of the ICA International Conference on 'Arbitration in the Era of Globalisation', Justice Amanullah said judges already handle a very large number of cases every day.
"At the trial court level, no judge has a case roster of less than 400-500 matters daily. In the high courts, the number is even higher," he said.
The top court judge said that while judges are required to sit in court for fixed hours and hear matters listed before them, they cannot always curtail arguments made by lawyers.

"A BMW car with license plate TS 09 FT 6662 was heading to Hyderabad. Around 4:15-4:20 PM, a concrete mixer tanker lost control near the Keesara Toll Plaza, causing it to fall onto the BMW. B. Srinivas Rao, a prominent High Court Advocate, was travelling in the car. He had participated in the Bar Council elections earlier that day in Amaravati and was heading back. Tragically, Rao passed away in the accident. His body was recovered with the help of JCBs and has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether the tanker was overloaded or if there was any negligence involved," SV Raja Sekhara Babu, the Commissioner of Police, Vijaywada, told NDTV.

The incident took place on March 16 when the child was lured away from her home by a neighbour on the pretext of buying chocolates. The girl did not return home for a few hours, following which her father began a search and found her lying unconscious and covered in blood nearby. The girl was initially taken to two private hospitals who denied admission. She was then taken to a Ghaziabad district hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
