Just a not-so-friendly reminder there is a hideously dystopian genocide taking place in #Xianjiang. Mass incarceration of an ethnic minority, forced labor, forced sterilization, beatings, murder, even rumors of organ harvesting. With recent talk about the AI-based age verification, there's another issue that may be going under the radar. I've heard rumors on r/YouTube in past weeks that YouTube accounts are being unjustifiably suspended because the task of determining whether accounts should be suspended or not has ostensibly been delegated to AI.

If this is true, I should probably point out that AI is probably not yet anywhere near "up to the task" of determining whether accounts should or should not be terminated. Maybe a preliminary internal flagging of an account isn't a bad idea to delegate to AI, but there should almost certainly be humans making the final decision for whether or not suspension is merited.

In retrospect, it really does seem like it's just a scarily short jump from concentration camps to forced labor... and from forced labor to... well, the word rhymes with sennoside. This administration just keeps pulling new and more hideous ideas out of a seemingly bottomless bag of awfulness...

... and it's not like we don't have a historical analog to what's going on, a century's old horror to use as a roadmap to what may come next. Hoping history doesn't repeat itself.
