It’s finally here!! Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 for L-Mount! For LUMIX shooters, third-party autofocus options have been pretty limited, so seeing Viltrox step into the system is genuinely exciting. This is their first AF lens for the L-Mount Alliance, and it opens the door to a lot more choice going forward.
The lens comes in at USD $580, but the build and features punch well above that. Full metal construction, physical controls, a click or de-click aperture ring, and even a built-in lens display.
I’ve already worked with this exact 16mm f/1.8 before. I shot the launch video for the E-mount version when it first released, and we didn’t go easy on it. Even under pressure, it delivered solid results, especially considering the price.
I’ve been using Viltrox gear for years, going all the way back to their speed boosters on my GH4 and GH5, so it’s been great to watch how the brand has evolved to this point.
Now with great bodies like the S1II and S1RII and more third party lenses finally available in L-Mount, it genuinely feels like the right lens arriving at the right time.
If you’ve been waiting for more affordable, high-quality glass on L-Mount, this is a strong move in the right direction and I cant wait to see more lenses coming to L-Mount… hope to see that 28mm pancake.. would be perfect for the S9!
