Hi, I'm Kodi, and welcome to MotoHikes.
MotoHikes is where adventure motorcycling meets the natural world.
I ride back roads, green lanes and remote trails in search of Britain's hidden landscapes, wild camps, forgotten history and incredible geology. Every ride is about exploring somewhere new and discovering the stories behind the places I visit.
As an Environmental Science student, I love sharing the ecology, wildlife and geology that make these landscapes so special, because understanding nature makes every adventure even more rewarding.
Today I'm exploring the UK, but the goal is much bigger: riding the Trans Euro Trail, crossing Europe, and one day tackling overland adventures around the world.
If you love adventure bikes, camping, exploration and the outdoors, you're in the right place.

I hope you've all enjoyed the recent surge in uploads! It's going to slow down a bit again for now as I prepare (and save money for) my Iceland trip in 2 weeks. Will try and get some stuff out, but it won't be every 2-3 days like it has been for the past month or so.

Just been out to film a 1000 mile (actually 1,400) review of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. I'm by no means a moto-journalist, nor a professional rider (hell, I only started riding 5 years ago!), but after spending some time in the saddle, I feel I have a good perspective and opinion as a regular joe rider; competent on the road, novice off of it. Video will be out in the next couple of days.

New boots fitted to Luca! Showing Rich (friend of the channel) some of the local lanes. Shame the bike he just bought kept overheating on one of them 😂 No footage as I've ran out of SD card space and was moving stuff over to a USB stick, but a great recce for when I do the 50 mile loop I've put together.

Today, me and my friend John are hitting some green lanes on my Suzuki V-Strom 800DE and his Kawasaki KMX 125. We're just north of Melton Mowbray, and it's my first proper day off-road. I'm still on road tyres, but I don't let that stop me! We tackle potholed dirt roads, battle through undergrowth and tango with a swampy pass. In comparison to my usual video's, this is quite quiet on the commentary front - full concentration along with letting the ride speak for itself.
Nothing beats the peace and serenity you find off road In the middle of nowhere, no one else around, it really does give you that sense of adventure that so many of us are looking for. This will be the first of I hope many, more wild-style adventures.

The sun is shining, and the vibes are spectacular (until a near miss towards the end of the ride!). Come join me as I take my bike to the Norfolk coast!

It's new bike day! It's goodbye to Odie, my old bike, and hello to Luca, my new (to me) Suzuki V-Strom 800DE! For his first outing, we're headed into the Peak District. With no set plan, we follow the day and end up navigating a green lane or 2 (you can be the judge as to whether that was successful), trundling through villages, as well as opening up the throttle on the sweeping roads. Ending the day in a tent, it's a perfect little mini adventure to welcome Luca to the garage. Next time I'll make sure he has the right tyres on lmao.

Everyone, meet Luca, my new (to me) Suzuki V-Strom 800DE.
Luca follows my tradition of naming bikes based on their license plates. The old Kawasaki was called Odie, only because he already had that name. His nickname (and my name for him) based on the plate, was Lieutenant Sorry.
Not only is Luca based on the plate, but it also ties in quite well to evolutionary biology. In that discipline, LUCA stands for Last Universal Common Ancestor; the ancient single-celled organism from which all life on Earth ultimately descended.
As an environmental scientist with a strong affinity for evolutionary ecology, I feel the name Luca is perfect. Here's hoping this machine proves as successful and long-lived as its namesake, and perhaps even marks the beginning of a distinguished evolutionary lineage of ADV motorcycles.
Absolutely in love with this bike after spending the day riding. No video from today because no one wants to see me fumbling around with these new-fangled rider modes and such. Should have my first impressions video ready in the next week.

Let me be your tour guide in today's video, as I take the motorbike out to explore Charnwood Forest, a forgotten little corner (though, ironically directly in the centre) of the UK. Some forested country roads, some beauty spots, some ideas for stops to stretch your legs, and even a rather degraded BOAT if you're a novice at riding off road and want some adventure-style practice, all finished up with a coffee and a look around the Superbike Factory at (admittedly not in Charnwood) Donington Park. Watch below!
