I am working to go live more regularly here on YouTube, so come join me tomorrow at 1PM (Pacific Time) to chat all things fall, and gardening as a whole!
A few morning sights from my early fall Zone 10A Garden: 1. Marketmore 76 Cucumber 2. Evening Primrose 3. Brassica Seedlings (protected from peacocks) 4. Moist and happy soil
If you can’t tell I am quite the avid documenter of every bug and creature that visits my garden, and I finally wrote all of them down! Check out today’s substack 🙏🏼
I hope you are having a lovely day, unless of course you are the two peacocks that were munching on my fall seedlings, which then required me to lock them up.
Happy Monday! Maybe I’m just a soil nerd, but few things bring me greater joy than seeing fungi popping out of my soil to tell me that there’s a party going on below the surface. Healthy soil = healthy plants = less money spent on fertilizer
Southern California Gardeners: for the first time in over 4 months we’ve got rain in the forecast, so don’t let it go to waste! Spread some wildflower mixes, wildflower seeds, lupines and medicinal herbs (which is what I’m doing) to really make the rain work for you.
Serious question: if you’ve ever grown from seed before, when do you get excited about your new seedlings? Level 1 is when you see the soil starting to bulge up (usually large seeds), level 1.5 is the first sight of green, level 2 is once they’ve barely made it out, and level 3 is when you’ve cleared the soil fully.

I’ve been traveling for the last two weeks, and am slowly getting back in a rhythm. My treat for you? The first peak of my first ever dragonfruit.

Mullein after the rain is one of my favorite sights in my garden, and no one can tell me otherwise.
