Du Toit Yacht Design is a leading naval architecture studio based in Cape Town, South Africa, specialising in custom and semi-custom sailing and power catamarans. Founded in 2001 by Anton and Charmaine du Toit, our team has designed more catamaran metres and tonnage than any other firm in the Southern Hemisphere.
With over 120 projects launched—including more than 100 full custom, semi-custom and production vessels—we bring deep technical expertise, elegant design, and a passion for performance to every project. Du Toit Yacht Design
At Du Toit Yacht Design, we don’t only design boats — we sail them.
This past weekend our General Manager, Sean van Rensburg, competed in the annual Mykonos Offshore Yacht Race organised by Royal Cape Yacht Club — the 64-nautical-mile passage from Cape Town to Saldanha Bay along South Africa’s west coast.
Sean sailed aboard Double Helix, a Mount Gay 30 on which we undertook a comprehensive performance upgrade, including a redesign of the keel, rudder, rig, bow sprit and sail inventory, together with selected hull modifications. At the same time, our Marketing Manager, Kirsten, crewed aboard Ballyhoo Too, a Mumm36 where we’ve been involved in rudder and keel refinements.
While we are widely recognised for designing large custom and semi-custom performance catamarans, we also undertake focused optimisation projects on race yachts. Whether it’s a bluewater cruiser or a high-performance monohull, the fundamentals remain the same — sound engineering, careful hydrodynamics and real-world validation.
There is no substitute for time offshore. Helm feel, balance, acceleration and load response in race conditions all inform the way we design.
We are proud to have a team of passionate sailors — and it is always a privilege to race alongside our clients.
