Fragments of USSR

We were born and raised in the USSR. We lived in its fragments. Let us share our heritage, experiences and worldview with you.

Fragments of USSR

Greetings, everyone!

I started this channel to introduce more people to the popular culture of the Soviet Union. I’m not doing this for money or fame. My hope is to bridge some gaps and clear up misunderstandings.

I’m very grateful to everyone who has already subscribed and follows my work. It’s a slow journey, but knowing that people enjoy what I do keeps me motivated. I hope to reach an even wider audience someday. My current goal is 100,000 subscribers—as unrealistic as that might sound!

I understand that the channel’s slow growth is partly due to the snail’s pace at which I produce content. This is a one-person project, and I also have to earn a living. Now that I’m preparing to take the USMLE next year, I have even less time to make videos. However, I’m still hard at work!

I’d like to take this opportunity to share the projects currently in development, the progress I’ve made, and some of the challenges I’m facing.

“Не расстанусь с комсомолом” / “I Will Not Part with the Komsomol”
My English adaptation, titled “The Komsomol Remains in My Heart,” is ready. I’m currently creating the accompanying video clips and plan to publish it at the end of October.

“Prometheus”
I’ve created an English dub of this Soviet animated film using HeyGen AI. Unfortunately, I’m not satisfied with some of the generated voices and am working to replace them. This requires a lot of painstaking, time-consuming editing, but I’m getting there.

“Автомобиль кота Леопольда” / “Leopold the Cat’s Automobile”
An English version is also in the works, but I’m having trouble creating a suitable adaptation of the well-known song “Все на свете можешь ты” / “You Can Do Anything.” Suno AI flags my attempts to upload the original melody for copyright reasons. Without the complete melody as a reference, the results keep turning into strange jazz variations that don’t capture the feel of the original. I’m currently exploring ways to solve this.

“Операция Ы” / “Operation Y”
This is one of my most ambitious projects. HeyGen AI produced a very decent English translation of the original Russian dialogue, giving me a solid foundation to work with. I’m currently trying to create an English adaptation of “Постой, паровоз” / “Hold On, Locomotive,” performed in the film by Yuri Nikulin and Georgy Vitsin.

“Приключения Васи Куролесова” / “The Adventures of Vasya Kurolesov”
I’ve translated this animated film using HeyGen AI. I’m now revising the initial translation and editing the video, with the aim of replacing the Russian credits with English ones.

Vladimir Vysotsky’s “Tau Ceti”
This project is still in the translation stage. Creating a rhyming English adaptation that does justice to the original is proving difficult—even with the help of several AI tools.

My biggest ongoing challenge is dealing with copyright claims on YouTube. Some of the material I use can be shared on the platform, while other projects run into restrictions.

One of my completed English dubs, “Большой Ух” / “Big Ear,” was blocked on YouTube following a copyright claim from another channel. Unfortunately, I’m currently unable to publish it here.

The film is fully dubbed. For those who want to see it, it is available on my Telegram channel: @FragmentsOfUSSR, as well as my Odysee channel (https://odysee.com/@FragmentsOfUSSR:7/Big-ear!:c), which I recently created as a backup and will be using to upload more polished versions of my work in the future.

Thank you for reading and for being part of this journey. Every subscriber, view, and share helps me reach more people. If you enjoy this content, sharing it with someone who might appreciate it is the best way to support the channel. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, or corrections, let me know in the comments—and tell me which project you’re most excited about. Until next time.
