Ouma Katrina Esau is the last fluent speaker of N|uu, a 20 000-year-old click language of the Khomani San people. Since the passing of the second-to-last speaker in 2021, she has worked with linguists to document it, co-authored a children’s book, and teaches local schoolchildren in hopes of preserving the language.
