My dad never fully understood what I do.
I told him--he just never wanted to understand or enjoy computers much, and used them begrudgingly as a tool rather than a source of joy.

Video games weren't completely unknown to him, but it's been a while since he raced cars on Gran Turismo 2 with me and my sister. Deep games full of stories, lore, and art weren't a thing he knew much about, though I have a feeling he might have enjoyed some of the more "literary" horror games, like Silent Hill or Amnesia, if he was more in the habit.

In fact, I have him to thank for my love of the horror genre. My parents were so careful about ESRB/MPAA ratings--I had to beg to play The Sims cause of its T rating thanks to the heart bed--but my dad bent that rule specially for horror movies. He watched Jurassic Park and Jaws with me repeatedly as a toddler, then Poltergeist, The Thing, and Blair Witch once a little older.

X-files and Twilight Zone were common in the house too, giving me a taste for paranormal content.
Pokémon was a little too Out There for him though, and the idea that anyone would be entertained _watching someone else talk about video games on the Internet_ never really clicked.

My dad passed away this month after a years-long battle with cancer, but only this summer did it really start slowing him down or hurting. He supported me in spirit, even if my jobs (youtube or elsewise, in tech) never made sense to him.
But he made me the smart and funny person that I am--he'd kill me for starting sentences with conjunctions--and there's a piece of him in everything I write. Perhaps a little moreso, now.

P.S. Video production obviously slowed to a stop this last month, but we've now had some time to process, so channel activities should pick up in October. -Mothy

This is amphibious pop star Ed Leeran.
He's here to announce after a long February of equipment upgrades + working on my skills as an editor, a new Mothy video is coming out later today!

It has a facecam, for my first time on this channel, which I'm quite anxious about, but that's always been the type of channel I dreamed of running, and this video is my next step toward making the sort of content that *I* most enjoy watching. In a way, this is a "first" upload for me, a soft reset, and I pray that it finds the right audience.

There are plenty of weird issues with the video--I forgot to introduce myself, the background animation speeds are wildly inconsistent, and I lost my EQ settings so the audio is a little worse than it has been.

But yeah, I'm still here and there should be a smaller gap between ensuing videos now that I've got a lot of challenges sorted. See you all for a very cursed Gameboy RPG video this evening!

Merry Christmas & other holidays, moth community!! Here's a little 2024 recap of the gaming I've done off the channel.
I completed FIFTY-NINE games this year.

42 of them were flat PS4/5 games. 13 were on PSVR1/2, and 4 on the Switch

The first game I completed this year, back on January 2, was Candle: The Power of the Flame, and most recent was Nobody Saves the World.

As for what got most of my time, Baldur’s Gate 3 is up there, and on the live service side of things, it’s Deep Rock Galactic or Darktide, which has gotten some solid play from me since its PS5 release. What are everyone's favorites they played this year?

Of course, writing scripts got much more time than any game :)

It's been a quiet month, because I've been working on this HUGE Silent Hill 2 remake video due out tomorrow morning!
It's my magnum opus at over 2 hours long, designed to serve as a narrated playthrough for anyone who hasn't gotten a chance to touch the game, as well as a plot explained for those who want a little more from it.

Jokes/gags are a little fewer cause of the serious source material, as well as the density of actual content to cover, but I'm VERY proud of this video and I hope y'all enjoy it. ❤️mothy

Yt hasn't been pushing my videos much lately--even my Dark Souls 2 whip run I was rather proud of did pretty bad, and that was in my niche. That's honestly WHY I've been a little more experimental with the videos lately; things I expected to do good _didn't_ therefore I may as well follow my heart, yeah?

Pokémon is gonna be on a LITTLE break after this for some un-serious Fromsoft content. I've been trying to find the right angle on a Déraciné (fromsoft VR) video for a while now, and might try to make that happen--or a completely unhinged Dark Souls boss ranking. Anything that can keep my video length under half an hour 😅
