At 37 years old, Ma Long competed in the National Games for the sixth time and claimed the fifth gold medal of his career at the event. With this men’s team victory, Ma Long has now completed the final missing piece in his career’s championship collection.
Previously, Ma Long won the men’s singles title at the 2013 National Games and, together with Ding Ning, captured the mixed doubles title. At the 2017 National Games, he successfully defended his men’s singles title. At the 2021 National Games, Ma Long and Wang Chuqin claimed the men’s doubles championship.

While Ma Long and Xu Xin are only registered for the team event (we’ll have to wait and see if they actually step on court), Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng will also compete in the singles event.
Liu Shiwen is set to participate in the women’s team and mixed doubles events.

Ma Long will represent Team Beijing. Although he is eligible to compete in the singles event as the 2024 World Cup singles champion, he chose not to register for it. Instead, Ma Long will focus entirely on the team event — the only title missing from the collection of the table tennis G.O.A.T.
Since 2016, every year on my birthday, the project “Me and My Table Tennis Table” has been one of the things I cherish the most. What began as a simple personal wish has now entered its tenth year. These donated tables carry the love of many people and have reached numerous places and schools. Every time I see students and children discovering their love for table tennis through this project, I feel truly happy — and it gives me motivation to keep moving forward.
