In case anyone's wondering where the gay artist video went:

I've decided to take the video down, at least for now. I recognize that a lot of people really liked it, but I've also gotten some feedback from people I respect, who thought that the video could have used some more nuance in weighing the status of psychoanalysis and in interpreting Freud's articles.

I considered making a version of the video that would incorporate this nuance or make its existence more explicit, but getting that to fit in a 5 -minute video felt next to impossible. I was still happy to leave the video as it was for as long as I could keep the comments open, so that people could look there for some additional context. But unfortunately I had to pause the comments indefinitely due to a sudden influx of homophobic trolling, which was too much for me to moderate by myself. After thinking it over for a bit, I decided that giving people a chance to discuss the topic further in the comment section was essential for this video, and that if I couldn't have that, then I didn't want to keep the video up at all.

I'm honestly kind of shocked that we were able to have respectful, constructive conversations on sensitive topics in a youtube comment section in the first place :D I'd like to thank everyone who took part in learning from one another!
