I recently received a comment from a follower who was told they were "too old" (at 40!) to enroll in a local drawing course. The door had slammed shut before they even started.

Can we just stop for a second and debunk this myth?

In my 25+ years of teaching, I’ve seen that some of the most soulful, technically proficient, and successful artists didn't find their "voice" until their 40s, 50s, or even 70s.

Here is the truth: You do NOT need a degree to have a thriving art career.

Art schools are not the only gatekeepers.
Your motivation & discipline is the way "in" + Your life experience is a superpower. You have a depth of emotion and observation now that you simply didn't have at 20.

If you’ve ever been told you’re "too old," "too late," or "not academic enough"—consider this your sign to keep going anyway. Use that frustration as fuel. Your "artful living" journey is yours to define, not a school’s.

I’ve been so very much enjoying the juxtaposition of realism with loose illustrative and sometimes decorative elements. I used to be so concerned about what others think about my artwork. It’s time now to paint just for me and these comforts of “what is allowed” “what is REAL art” “what is fine art vs illustration or decorative” well, I just don’t think it matters.

I wanted a palette that felt soft and luminous. Like early morning light, creating a world that is tender, hushed, and alive all at once.

At the center stands a hare, stoic, alert and still. Its posture carries a steadiness grounded in the earth, and at the same time a readiness to spring away in an instant. Its gaze is curious but cautious, as if weighing the safety of its surroundings while refusing to shrink from them.
