China’s interest in Brazil’s agricultural supply chain is moving beyond buying commodities and into local industrial investment. Chinese biotech giant Fufeng Group is evaluating a major amino-acid production facility in Mato Grosso that would consume roughly 560,000 tons of corn annually to produce lysine and threonine for animal feed.

For Brazil, the project would support the long-discussed goal of adding value domestically rather than exporting raw grains. Local industry leaders argue that new processing plants have historically expanded, rather than constrained, corn production by creating stronger demand signals for farmers.

The proposal highlights a broader trend: Chinese capital is increasingly targeting Brazil’s upstream agricultural infrastructure and processing capacity, strengthening long-term ties between the world’s largest agricultural exporter and its largest commodity customer. If approved, the investment could generate jobs, stimulate regional development, and further cement Mato Grosso’s role as a global agribusiness hub.

🌽 Is China already covered on corn and soybeans?

Market analyst Terry Reilly says Argentina could capture much of the upcoming corn demand because of its competitiveness — while erratic Midwest weather could still tighten U.S. corn supplies later this season.

He also says making sales still makes sense in this market.

Do you agree?

Major progress for Brazil’s infrastructure sector 🇧🇷🚆

The Court approval for Ferrogrão represents a significant step toward advancing one of Brazil’s most important logistics corridors.

The planned 580-mile (933 km) railway will connect the grain-producing region of Sinop, Mato Grosso — one of the world’s largest soybean and corn production hubs — to the river port terminal district of Miritituba, Pará.

From there, cargo will move through the Tapajós and Amazon river system to export terminals in northern Brazil, creating a faster and more efficient route to international markets.

Today, much of this agricultural production depends on truck routes that can exceed 1,240 miles (2,000 km) to southern ports such as Santos and Paranaguá. Ferrogrão is expected to reduce transportation distances, lower logistics costs, improve export competitiveness, and ease pressure on the BR-163 highway corridor.

The project is viewed as a strategic investment in Brazil’s agribusiness growth and long-term infrastructure modernization.
