One of the very first lessons marriage taught me was the importance of compromise.
When you say “I do,” life is no longer just about what you want. Every major decision now affects another person—the one you promised to love, honor, and build a life with.
Compromise doesn’t mean one person always gives in. It means finding common ground. Sometimes you’ll get your way. Sometimes your spouse will. And many times, you’ll meet somewhere in the middle because the relationship matters more than being right.
Over 35 years, I’ve learned that marriage isn’t about winning arguments or keeping score. It’s about working together, respecting each other’s differences, and making decisions that strengthen your life as a team.
Compromise isn’t always easy, but it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give your marriage.
