*Is corruption on peak in Delhi Police or more heights to be attained?*

Good Afternoon Friends,

Kindly see this clipping of
Film Jolly LLB.

This clipping will snatch your sleep & peace of mind that some police officers' misconduct & criminal acts bring bad names to our Delhi Police officers. Corruption in Delhi Police in upward direction on very fast speed. More and more CBI/Vigilence raids are going on Delhi Police.

Where are so-called senior officers are slipping. Are they ignorant (conneyved) or intentionally avoiding to look unto all these useless issues? Is it unquestionable ?

Indications of growing corruption in Delhi Police:
Recent Arrests: News reports frequently highlight cases of Delhi Police personnel being arrested by their own Vigilance Unit or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on bribery charges. These instances, as recent as April 2025, indicate that corruption is a persistent issue. Examples include:
* An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) arrested for accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe for allowing construction work.
* A Sub-Inspector arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding and obtaining a ₹2.5 lakh bribe in a cybercrime case.
* The apprehension of three police officials (Sub-Inspector, Head Constable, and Constable) for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe related to betting activities.

Historical Issues: Delhi Police has been described as having a reputation for corruption over the years. Reports suggest a high number of complaints within the Delhi Police Services are registered against its personnel.

Forms of Corruption: The reported cases and general understanding point to various forms of corruption, including:
Demanding and accepting bribes for carrying out or obstructing official duties (e.g., allowing construction, not arresting individuals).
* Extortion and illegal gratification.
* Collusion with illegal activities.
Responsibility for Corruption:
Corruption within any organization is a complex issue with responsibility potentially lying at various levels:
Individual Officers: The officers directly involved in corrupt acts are undoubtedly responsible for their actions.
Supervisory Levels (SHOs): The role of SHOs comes under scrutiny when corruption occurs within their jurisdiction. There have been instances where SHOs were transferred to district lines following the arrest of officers under their command, suggesting a degree of accountability.
Higher Authorities: While not always directly implicated in individual cases, senior officers and the overall leadership bear a responsibility to create and maintain a culture of integrity, implement effective anti-corruption measures, and ensure accountability. Systemic failures in oversight, training, and internal controls can contribute to a climate where corruption can thrive.
Systemic Factors: Broader issues within the policing system, such as workload, pressure, discretion in powers, and potentially inadequate remuneration at lower levels, can create vulnerabilities to corruption.

Lack of Transparency and Accountability Mechanisms: If mechanisms for reporting corruption are ineffective or if there's a perception of a lack of impartial investigation and punishment, it can embolden corrupt practices.

Measures to Curb Corruption:
Delhi Police and the government have several mechanisms in place to address corruption:
Vigilance Branch: A dedicated department exists within the Delhi Police to handle complaints of corruption, negligence, and malpractices. They operate a helpline (1064) and a WhatsApp number (9910641064) for reporting such issues. But Delhi Police Vigilance is almost defunct and much needed is not being done.

Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB): The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Government of NCT of Delhi investigates allegations of corruption against officials of all Delhi government departments, including the police They conduct raids and lay traps to apprehend corrupt officials.

Internal Disciplinary Actions: Delhi Police can take departmental action against personnel found involved in malpractices, including suspension, transfer, and initiating major or minor penalty disciplinary proceedings, potentially leading to dismissal.

Criminal Cases: In cases of corruption, criminal cases are registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, leading to arrests and potential prosecution.

Public Awareness and Outreach: Efforts are made to increase public awareness against corruption and encourage reporting through helplines and other channels.

Information Facilitation Counters: These are set up to provide citizens with information about complaint procedures against corruption.

Community Policing Initiatives: Schemes aimed at improving police-public relations can indirectly help in building trust and making it easier for the public to report corruption.
In conclusion, while it's difficult to quantify the extent of corruption in the Delhi Police, the recurring instances of arrests and historical perceptions suggest it is a significant concern. Responsibility lies at multiple levels, from individual officers to the leadership and potentially systemic factors. Various measures are in place to combat corruption, but their effectiveness in completely eradicating the issue remains a challenge.
We hope that the top brass of Delhi Police will do introspection of growing corruption issues in Delhi Police itself at the earliest as public trust will be more shaken with our police.

Thanks and regards:
