The true beauty of a self-inquiring sentient universe is lost on those who elect to walk the intellectually vacuous path of comfortable paranoid fantasies. 雷足

How starship tiles are attached. Metal bar pushed through wet heat tile. Impressive how they added a permanent failure point at a design level! This design is very VERY stupid and will never deliver any of musks vaporware promises!
Short version of why Starship thermal protection system not being waterproof is devastating.....
One good thunderstorm and the heat tiles will absorb TONS of water. It rains a lot in TX and FL.
Thats an issue in knowing what the actual launch weight of your vehicle is.
IF you launch with that it will freeze with evaporative cooling in space.... and damage the structure of the heat tiles.
The ice evaporation rate will be slow, and on reentry will boil acting as a fantastic heat transfer agent.....negating the main purpose of the heat shield... insulation!
Shuttle had more or less the exact same tiles, and the exact same problem. The solution... WATERPROOF THE TILES...... downside.... kills rapid reuse as you have to do it every time you fly the vehicle.
Things to cross of bucket list.... melting a bit of starship with a gas torch!
yup... starship tiles..... its just silica... melts fine under oxygen/ butane. Looks like frosting after melting! Surface layer..... is higher mp.... but still melts fine in seconds :-)
Holy crap... going thru the old starship launches. Pure 'DONT BELIEVE YOUR LYING EYES' Orwellian stuff. First mention something might not be right with flight 1 is at the 3m40s mark.
They would have known it was never going to make orbit at the 30s mark.
Hyperloop.... the Future of Transport!! Yes this is LITERALLY what a half billion dollar project looks like now.... I think I would describe it as 'post apocalyptic'!
