Why is PSCF Summer Reading Rewards Program so Impactful ?
While numerous organizations distribute books to millions of children, distribution alone is not enough. Access does not guarantee engagement. That’s why the Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation was established: to actively combat the -school - to prison and foster care -to prison pipelines by not only providing books but also fostering a culture of literacy through our innovative summer reading program.
Our approach is both simple and impactful—returning to the basics: parents read with their children, assist them in writing summaries, and celebrate their efforts with meaningful rewards. This is where PSCF makes a difference. We recruit families, purchase books, guide them through the reading and writing process, and provide monetary incentives over a four-week period. Research shows that forming a habit requires consistent practice for approximately 18 days, and our program is built with that science in mind.
Our ultimate goal is to transform reading from a mandatory academic requirement into a joyful, sustainable family tradition.
