Today, on July 4th, 2023, an empowering event took place in Kargil! The Women Police Station Kargil joined forces with the Special Cell for Women to launch their first outreach and awareness program at Karsha Nunrey Gompa Zanskar.
The program kick-started with an engaging interactive session, led by Ms. Disket Ladol, the SHO of Women Police Station Kargil. She enlightened the Nunrey (Chomos) about the challenges faced by women in our society, discussing various issues unique to being a woman.
In addition, Ms. Hassina, a social worker from the Special Cell, shed light on the prevalent harassment and gender-based violence faced by women in our culture. Her insights and experiences were eye-opening for all the participants.
As the session concluded, Ms. Disket Ladol expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the attentive participants for actively engaging in the program and making it an interactive experience. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of approximately 20 Nunrey at Karcha Gompa Zanskar.

Govt. Model Degree College, Zanskar bids farewell to Principal Professor MNM Shabani
Zanskar, 4th July: Govt. Model Degree College, Zanskar organised a farewell party in honour of Principal Professor MNM Shabani. The programme was organised by students and staffs of the college. The programme started with welcome speech by Dr. Jamphel Sheyan. Prof. Isaac delivered a speech on this occasion where he appreciated the works carried out by Prof. Shabani to develop Govt. Model Degree College, Zanskar as per with other colleges in India. The students also performed traditional as well as modern Ladakhi dances. Mr. Nawang Phunstok spoke on the behalf of non-teaching staff and thanked Prof. Shabani for his tireless effort in providing quality education to the students. Miss Sonam Angmo thanked Prof. Shabani on the behalf of students of the college; and mentioned that Prof. Shabani and faculty members have been instrumental in bringing a positive change in the life of students in the college. In his speech, Prof. Shabani gave a brief introduction about the college and recalled many anecdotes from his work experiences in Zanskar. He said, “Govt. Model Degree College, Zanskar has come up a long way with 32 students from two rooms in Govt. Higher Secondary School, Padum to about 105 students with full-fledged campus provided with required amenities”. Prof. Shabani thanked SDM, Zanskar, the HODs of all the department of Zanskar, President, Zanskar Buddhist Association and President, Muslim Association of Zanskar for their help and cooperation in developing the college. He also advised students to devote their time in studies and other co-curricular activities to meet up the challenges of the new millennium. Dr. Jamphel Sheyan presented the formal vote of thanks and thanked all the students and staffs for making this programme a success.
Zanskar June 19, 2023: Executive Councilor, Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi today inaugurated the newly constructed J&K Bank Building at Padum, Zanskar.
Incharge SDM Zanskar, Tsering Norbu, Manager J&K Bank Padum, Ajaz Ahmad Wani, staff and customers were present and dedicated the facility to public and customers.
At the inauguration ceremony, EC Tashi thanked Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan for allotment of the land at the present site and also Chairman, J&K Bank Srinagar for approval of funds for this Bank and Zonal Head J&K Bank, Ladakh.
The bank has all modern facilities including central heating system and residential accommodation for the Manager. Parking facility is also available at new J&K Bank site. The bank was a prime requirement as the old bank building is within the area under NH-301 expansion.
Ec Phunchok tashi meet Honble MLA Lahoul Spiti Sh Ravi Thakur ji and former Chief Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sh SS Kapur ji at Distt HQ Kaylong .. Ec Punchok Tashi Executive Councilor Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affair LAHDC Kargil called on Chief Engineer Project Yojak Jarinder Parsad at their HQ office Manali HP today and had a detailed discussion about the present status of Shingkunla as well as overall progress and work programme for 2023 of Nummu Padum Darcha road.
NPD road last year shifted from Project Vijayak HQ at Kargil to Project YOJAK based at Manali and since then the progress has been achieved many fold .
Due to frequent rain/ snowfall and cloudy weather the road from Manali to Padum got distrup anytimes thereby huge suffering to the commuters including Tourist and local people.
The visit was particularly to see how to improve the road conditions over Shingkunla so that both side traffic could be ensured as several delegates of travel feternity has expressed thier loss to cancelation of tour programme and also students missed their exams. Er Punchok Tashi requested Chief Engineer Project Yojak to setup special work force particularly at Shingkunla so as to widen the avalanches portion and improve the surface of the road ... Chief Engineer brief about the work programme and ensured that they will put all effort to compete blacktopping of the already widen portion from Padum to Shingkunla and also shall try to complete the connectivity between Neraq to Chilling in NPD road ..The mobilization status of proposed Shingkunla tunnel has also been discussed..
On behalf of people of Zanskar appreciation were conveyed to the work force of Project YOJAK for expediting the road construction after taking the charge.
Ladakh MP Addresses Developmental Concerns in Kargil District with LG Ladakh
MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal met with Brig. Dr. B.D. Mishra Ji, the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, to address developmental concerns in Kargil District. MP JTN provided an account of his recent tour spanning from Drass to Zanskar, highlighting the Foundation Stones laid for projects worth Rs. 157 crore. These projects aim to construct roads and bridges under the PMGSY and CRIF initiatives in multiple villages.
During the meeting, MP JTN updated the Hon'ble LG on various activities, including the review of the ongoing construction of NH301 Road from Kargil to Padum Zanskar. Compensation amounting to Rs. 62.68 crore was distributed to 10 villages from Abran to Padum for land, trees, and structures under NH301. Discussions also revolved around the ongoing construction of the Northern Grid Transmission Line from Drass to Zanskar and the substation at Haftal in Zanskar.
MP JTN mentioned the recent inauguration of the Nyerak Bridge, connecting Zanskar and Nyerak village on the Nimoo-Padum-Darcha Road. Additionally, the progress of ongoing NPD Road Construction from Sking-Kargyak in Lungnak to Nyerak was reviewed. The installation of new BSNL mobile towers under the 4G saturation schemes in Ladakh and other developmental activities were also inspected.
MP JTN briefed the Hon'ble LG on public issues discussed during his meetings in various villages throughout the tour. The meeting concluded with a discussion on matters related to the Kargil Administration, highlighting the collaborative efforts between MP JTN and the Administration for the progress and welfare of the region and the people of Ladakh.
Today on dated 10-06-2023 ,Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission Kargil kickstarted Social Mobilization Campaign in Zanskar Sub-division at Techa Village of Block Karsha under overall supervision and direction of ACD Kargil Shri Ghulam Mohammad JKAS.! Techa Village is consist of 25 households and all women from the household took participate in the Social Mobilization Campaign!! Mr.Muneer Rasul Wani District Project Manager LRLM Kargil talked in length about the SHGs and it's important, shared some success story of SHGs in rest of the State/UTs, encourages Women to take apart actively in SHGs and it's mission, 03 SHGs group is expected to form in techa Village. Women were very enthusiastic and has shown positive response..Bank linkages, financial literacy and other vertical available under LRLM were also discussed thoroughly!! BDC Karsha Shri Lobazang thanks the LRLM team for the campaign and running one of the booming Livelihoods mission and he is optimistic that in near future women of Zanskar sub division will also get empowered and become an example to other State /UTs , Lambardar, Panches and other villages were also present during the programme!! Programme was successfully concluded with a vote of thanks by DPM LRLM Kargil.
In the first ever meeting of the club, a thorough discussion was held among the members regarding the aims and objectives of the club on May 15, 2023. Afterwards, Press Club Zanskar was formally established with twelve members including journalists, reporters and photographers etc. from the region as per notice circulated on May 9,
In the discussion it was cleared that the club will always act as a neutral body as it is known as the fourth pillar of the democracy. Soon the executives will start framing the constitution of the club and also start working for its registration.
At last, membership forms were filled and submitted to the concerned executive. All the members accepted that Zanskar was in dire need of the club as it will provide a platform to the general public of Zanskar to raise voice. Today onwards anyone can contact the press club either for press conference or for any other issues.
