There has been a lot of conversation about Pantone choosing Cloud Dancer as the 2026 Color of the Year, and I want to share my perspective in a grounded way.
Since coming back into this industry, I have tried many times to call brands and institutions in. Some listened, but many drifted back into old patterns. The commitment we saw around inclusion in 2020 has faded, and many people feel permission to stop caring.
Black and Brown makers have already shared that celebrating an almost white shade for an entire year feels harmful and exclusionary, especially in a craft community that is often perceived as not inclusive. Color carries history and symbolism, and the impact is not the same for everyone.
Before anyone says it is just a color, I want to invite us to pause. If Black and Brown makers are telling us this choice harms them, that matters. Minimizing their experience might feel comfortable, but it communicates that their voices matter less than our desire to stay neutral.
I am not judging any brand or person who chooses to participate in the 2026 challenges. There is a way to move forward while also acknowledging harm. Participation is not the issue. Erasing impact is. Silence is. Acting as if nothing happened is.
Institutions may move ahead as planned. That is their choice. But individuals still have choices too.
So the question becomes this. Knowing what Black and Brown makers have voiced, how do we want to move forward. What does alignment look like for each of us.
There is no right or wrong answer. Only awareness. And with awareness comes choice.
The moment I saw Krista Moserās Crimson Christmas quilt, I knew I had to kit it up for the shop - even just from the photos, this design is absolutely gorgeous. The glow of the poinsettias, the movement, the contrast⦠itās stunning.
I also mocked up a Moda Grunge version (because of course I did š ) and Iām obsessed with how much depth and texture Grunge adds. Iām definitely making this one myself once my fabric reorder lands.
I shared it on Facebook first and the entire first batch of kits sold out within an hour (!!), so Iāve opened preorders while I restock fabric.
If you want to grab one, tap the product tagged here - and if this post pops off on YouTube too, Iāll increase my yardage so nobody misses out. š«
And definitely check out āŖ@kristamoser⬠- her patterns are incredible.
