TECHNICALITY OF DEATH

I arrived only to find my elder brother sleeping like a baby
in a glass box,
rolled in a mat like a toy that’s been gift-wrapped.

All around me, there was so much noise—
people talking about the accident,
his job, his nominees,
who still needed to come, what paperwork needed to be done.

But I couldn’t hear a thing.

I felt like I had fallen into a deep well.
Memories that once made me smile
were now like knives turning in my heart.

All the things we did together.
All the things we didn’t.
All the dreams we never got to finish.

I didn’t care about the technicality of death (how,when,why)
or the fragility of life.

All I cared about was this:

I will never hear his voice again.
Never feel the tenderness in his “Hello”
followed by,
*"Cheppuu Amma, Enti?"* (చెప్పు అమ్మ,ఏమిటి)
over a casual phone call.

My son doesn’t have a Pedda Mama (పెద్ద మావయ్య) anymore.
We were four siblings.
Now we’re just three.
We are incomplete now

But he didn’t go alone.
He took a part of me with him.

The grief is not just for my brother—
it’s for the version of my life that existed with him in it.
That bond, that identity, that history.

"Tanu Naa Chelli" (తను నా చెల్లెలు) — was more than a word.
It was a role, a relationship,
a thread that tied me to my past.

It gave my son an uncle,
It gave my heart a companion from childhood—
and now that thread is torn.

My pedda anna is now 'a body' &
then 'potful of ash'
then he will disappear forever.

I will be left here with his memories.
His responsibilities are mine now.
His dreams are mine now.
That's all is there to the wonderful time we shared, I will wait for the time when His memories will bring a smile on my face again, but for now all I have are these tears that don't seem to dry up.

Binge watched Wedding.con yesterday (Saturday) night. What a documentary!!! ‪@PrimeVideoIN‬ ​⁠‪@BBCStudios‬ A must watch not just for the women who want to get married but also their parents.

Only if women were not told that “Happily Ever After” means only one thing that is getting married.

Only if women were not judged about everything they do and wear.

Only if women were not required to prove themselves in every role they play in life.

Only if women were not taught to be submissive or people pleasers.

Only if women were not considered a burden that had to be sent away.

Only if women were not asked to compromise because nobody wants to get married to a woman who is confident,smart and outspoken.

This show is not just about matrimonial fraud - it’s a lot more.

It not only delves into what’s so basically wrong with the society but how weak the laws regarding crime crimes are and how there are no laws regulating matrimonial frauds.

We should also not forget the fact that despite all this these women showed such strength and resilience. I am happy that they had the courage to seek out love and trust someone one more time.
