Most people walk past the Saigon Central Post Office and see a beautiful historic building.

But more than a century ago, this place was part of something much bigger.

Before the internet… before smartphones… before modern networks…
this was where information moved faster than people.

Telegraph lines once linked Saigon to Hanoi, Bangkok, and beyond — helping turn the city into a center of communication in Southeast Asia.

But the deeper story is this:
The Post Office never stood alone.

Together with Notre-Dame Cathedral and Norodom Palace, it formed what we call Saigon’s hidden Power Triangle:

In the heart of Saigon, Turtle Lake might look like just another roundabout. But this small urban space holds layers of history and memory.

It was once the site of a 19th-century French water tower called Château d’Eau. In the 1970s, it was redesigned into the modernist landmark we see today by architect Nguyễn Kỳ. The turtle statue that gave the lake its name is long gone — but the name, and the memories connected to this place, are still very much alive.

Over the years, Turtle Lake has become a meeting spot for students, a place for graduation photos, and a quiet pause in Saigon’s busy rhythm.

HỒ CON RÙA – BIỂU TƯỢNG KHÔNG CÒN… RÙA 🐢🌿

Giữa trung tâm Sài Gòn, Hồ Con Rùa nhìn như một vòng xoay quen thuộc. Nhưng phía sau không gian mở ấy là nhiều lớp lịch sử và ký ức của thành phố.

Nơi đây từng là vị trí của một tháp nước thời Pháp thế kỷ 19 mang tên Château d’Eau. Đến thập niên 1970, khu vực được kiến trúc sư Nguyễn Kỳ thiết kế lại thành công trình bê tông hiện đại mà chúng ta thấy hôm nay. Bức tượng rùa từng đặt giữa hồ đã biến mất từ lâu — nhưng cái tên “Hồ Con Rùa” và những ký ức gắn với nơi này thì vẫn còn nguyên.

Qua năm tháng, Hồ Con Rùa trở thành chỗ hẹn của sinh viên, nơi chụp ảnh kỷ yếu, và là một khoảng lặng giữa nhịp sống vội vã của Sài Gòn.
