I'm an 18-year-old journalist covering politics, policy, economics, and global affairs. Welcome to my channel!
This all started in 2019, when I began covering stories here in Toledo, Ohio. That same year, I had my 'big break': an interview with presidential candidate & Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. That led to appearances on CBS This Morning, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, as well as write-ups in national publications, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Root, and others. I've also made a number of appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, during which I interviewed the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, Naomi Osaka, and Eric Stonestreet. My final appearance on the show was in 2022, when I interviewed Ellen herself, as part of her final season. Following that, I would re-appear on the nationally-syndicated LIVE with Kelly and Mark, on which I was previously interviewed in 2020. I've also covered U.S. politics for the U.K. young adult news show 'FYI' on Sky.

Thanks to a power outage, possibly related to today's stormy weather here in NW Ohio, I can't bring you my inflation report just yet.
However, I can share some other news in the meantime: Beginning Wednesday, I'll be mostly offline for a ten-day trip through Central Europe. 🇪🇺 I'll have the unique experience of visiting Germany, Poland, and Czechia.
While you may not see much reporting on my typical beat, during that time, I'll attempt something of a running travel blog on my Substack: jadenreports.substack.com/
As for now, however, fingers crossed that the lights come back on, so I can bring you news on the economy. 😂

[Updated to provide added context on last year's redistricting.]
The Associated Press projects that Derek Merrin, a former state representative, will win the Republican nomination for Ohio's 9th Congressional District.
This means he'll once again face the Democratic incumbent, Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Toledo, in November.
Note that, in 2024, Merrin lost to Rep. Kaptur by just 2,382 votes. That was in a district that, while carried by President Trump, wasn't red enough for him to pull off a win.
Last year, however, the GOP-controlled Ohio Redistricting Commission redrew the district to be even redder for this year. While Democrats on the commission joined in voting for the new map, they did so with the understanding that if the commission failed to reach a consensus, it would then be up to legislators in the Republican-controlled Statehouse to draw new maps.
(Essentially, they supported the current map to prevent the legislature from potentially drawing a map that would have further disadvantaged Democratic candidates.)
Despite the district encompassing more rural, Republican-leaning areas, this race is still rated a toss-up by The Cook Political Report.
