Fact of the Day #9!
Happy Friday everyone!
Hitchcock was so proud of the twist in 'Psycho' that he refused to allow theatres to let anyone in to see the film once it started.
Obviously, he went to great lengths to make sure nothing related to the film's plot twist was spoilt. As well as this, he also attempted to buy all copies of the novel that the film was based on to keep the plot twist fresh. Interviews, as suspected, with the stars Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh were prohibited.
Lobby cards at the theatres specifically displayed the message, "We won't allow you to cheat yourself. You must see PSYCHO from the very beginning. Therefore, do not expect to be admitted into the theatre after the start of each performance of the picture. We say no one—and we mean no one—not even the manager's brother, the President of the United States, or the Queen of England (God bless her)!”
Well... what do you think?

Fact of the Day #8! (SPOILERS AHEAD!)
Sometimes Hitchcock just isn't for everybody.
An episode written by 'Psycho' author Robert Bloch included something so gruesome that the episode was kept off the air.
In the episode "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," a boy who dreamt of becoming a magician is manipulated into killing his idol by the idol's cheating spouse. He is manipulated into it by being told that by murdering her husband, it will enable him to inherit her spouse's powers. He falls into this trap and proceeds to saw her in half.
What do you think? Was this really to gruesome to air?

Happy Friday everyone! It's time for fact of the day #7!
(Click on the image to see it in full size!)
In Hitchcock's 'Dial M For Murder', the character of Margot (Grace Kelly) dresses in such a way that reflects her mental state. For example, at the beginning of the film we can see that she is clad in clothing with bright colours that signifies her happiness. However, as the plot thickens, her clothing becomes darker and duller... reflecting her declining mental state.
During Hitchcock's conversation with Francois Truffaut, another iconic film director from France, he proceeded to explain how he used clothing as a form of storytelling in films. "I dressed her in very gay and bright colors at the beginning of the picture, and as the plot thickened, her clothes became gradually more somber."

Fact of the Day #6!
Seen in Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo' (1958), the film director invented an in-camera effect named the Dolly Zoom, also known as the Vertigo effect. This effect is achieved by the camera moving away whilst the camera lens zooms in to the subject, or vice versa. The camera moving farther away makes the foreground subject, for example the person, to be the focal point. However, if it moves in closer, the background becomes the focus. In relation to Vertigo, this effect was used by Hitchcock to allow the audience to relate to the feeling that the character was experiencing every time his acrophobia kicked in.
Just another example of the cinematic power of the Master of Suspense himself!

Fact of the Day #5!
Now... this might not be much of a surprise to most of you but Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' was actually the first American film to show a toilet on screen. It's also the first American film to which the audience hears a toilet being flushed.
Did you know about this? Penny for your thoughts?

Fact of the Day #3!
Hitchcock was actually set to film a scene in Disneyland but Disney rejected him and the entire idea. Why, do you ask? Well... he made that "disgusting movie", one that we know better as the slasher masterpiece 'Psycho'.

Fact of the Day #2!
Most would think actors like Grace Kelly, Clare Greet, or James Stewart were the most constant image in Hitchcock's films, but it actually seems to be Hitchcock himself. The film director owned the cameo crown, making short appearances in 39 of his own films.
Although most of his cameos were nothing but a mere appearance, the only film where he speaks in is The Wrong Man (1956). A traditional appearance was replaced with a narration as an introduction.
