Cosmomapping: Reimagining the World Beyond Borders | 59-Page Artist-Research Portfolio (2012–2025)'

The world has been mapped endlessly—by states, by armies, by corporations.
Yet the human world remains largely unmapped.

Cosmomapping is an original artistic–research methodology developed between 2012 and 2025 that rethinks cartography beyond borders, sovereignty, and nationalist imagination. Emerging from lived experience in Kashmir—one of the most over-mapped yet under-heard regions—this work proposes mapping as an ethical, emotional, and post-national practice.

Rather than depicting territory, Cosmomapping enacts belonging.

This portfolio introduces Cosmomapping: Series Part I, a 59-page artist-research portfolio documenting thirteen years of visual inquiry. Through drawing, line, color, fragmentation, and accident, the works transform memory, silence, trauma, kinship, and human connection into visual cartographies of shared existence.

Cosmomapping does not reject geography.
It refuses domination.

Rooted in critical cartography, decolonial aesthetics, and cosmopolitan humanism, this practice positions art as research—capable of generating theory, method, and global dialogue. Maps here are not instruments of control, but fields of empathy. Citizenship is not territorial; it is relational.

This portfolio is shared openly for:

• anyone questioning borders as destiny

My Personal Utopia (2012–2013) | Acrylic & Pen on Paper – Mohd Syeed Teeli

This work began as a delicate portrait of Mehak—an imaginary character inspired by the word mehak (fragrance). A single drop of color transformed everything. Rather than erasing it, I embraced the moment, letting color flow freely and adding pen drawings. What started as a portrait evolved into a map of Mehak, laying the foundation of my cosmopolitan journey—where every angle and connection matters. 🌍🎨

Created during my 10+2 days, this piece was included in my aptitude test for the Institute of Music and Fine Arts and was recognized by my teachers Rakesh Kumar and Nowshaad Gayoor.

Over the years, this approach developed into my signature style. My Personal Utopia remains one of my earliest milestones, shaping the interconnected, cosmopolitan language I continue to explore in my art today.
