In my latest Conversations with Designers with Lotta and Marie, we were in the live chat talking about socks and someone mentioned the Fleegle heel. I hadn't heard about it but I did some research and found some information about it. It comes from a blogger who went by the name, Fleegle and she engineered this heel when your toe-up sock reaches the front of your ankle. At this point, with the stitches divided evenly in half between your instep and what will be the heel, you start to increase and make a gusset.

I prefer to knit my socks top down with a gusset. This type of heel fits me really well. Fish kiss lips or other classic short row heels don't fit as well so I avoid those. I am interested in trying out the Fleegle heel for my next pair of socks I knit.

What is your preferred type of sock? Top down, toe up? Gusset or short row heels? I'd love to hear what techniques you use for your socks?
