Whenever someone tells me:

“KDP doesn’t work anymore.”

I usually want to ask one question:

What were you publishing?

Because if the strategy was making another journal from a Canva template in roughly the time it takes to microwave lunch...

Then yes.

I agree.

That market is difficult.

The barrier to entry is basically on the floor.

Anyone can do it.

So everyone did.

But that’s not the publishing business I teach.

We publish *nonfiction books built around real demand.*

Books that solve real problems.

Books people are already searching for.

And most importantly, we choose the market BEFORE we ever start creating the manuscript.

There’s a fundamental difference between saying:

“I made a book.”

and:

“I found a market, identified what people wanted, and built a product for it.”

One is just publishing a book on Amazon.

The other is a business.

The people who learn how to find real demand, create genuinely useful books, and build a portfolio of books strategically still have something most people never build:

ASSETS that can keep producing long after the work is done.

That’s the kind of publishing business I’m interested in building.

True. But “good vibes” keeps getting declined at checkout.

I wanted more money because I wanted more time.

To travel. Help my parents. Enjoy a random Tuesday without asking for permission.

I knew my corporate 9-to-5 wasn’t going to get me there.

That’s why I got into book publishing.

A useful book can keep selling for years. It takes work, but each sale doesn’t require another hour of my life.

Unfortunately, most people overlook this opportunity.

Books don’t sound exciting.

But personally, I don’t need my income to be exciting.

I need it to show up on time every month.

If you wanted to build an extra source of income, books might not be the first thing you’d think of.

Fair enough. They don’t get invited to many “get rich” conversations.

But here’s the truth about books...


A useful book can keep selling for years after you create it. And through Amazon, you can sell it without keeping boxes in your house or making daily trips to the post office.

Someone buys a copy. Amazon prints it, ships it, and pays you a royalty.

Your living room can remain a living room.

The books can be about everyday things people want help with.

Growing vegetables. Training a puppy. Learning how to use their new computer without calling their daughter.

You don’t need a famous name. You do need a book that gives a specific reader something they want.

And the part that interests me most is what you can build over time.

Say you publish one book and it starts selling.

Great.

But now imagine you’ve built up several.

Your gardening book gets more interest in spring. Your book about handmade gifts picks up before Christmas. Your puppy guide sells because somewhere, right now, a dog is chewing an expensive shoe.

Different readers, different reasons to buy.

If one book has a slow month, you have others that can help make up for it.

That’s the same basic idea behind spreading your money across different investments: you don’t want everything depending on one thing going well.

Of course, publishing takes work. Some books sell well. Some don’t.

But you can start small, learn the process, and build from there.

One book, then another.

In a short time from now, you could own a small catalog that brings in royalties from several titles each month.

I think books are one of the closest things we have to the perfect product.

Obviously, I’m biased.

I’ve spent a large portion of my adult life publishing them.

But hear me out.

A book is inexpensive enough that buying one usually doesn’t require a family emergency meeting.

And you don’t have to explain what it is or convince someone to feel comfortable buying one.

People already know why they want books.

To solve a problem. Learn a skill. Escape into a story. Find a thoughtful gift.

Your job is to create one that gives them what they’re looking for.

And when you do, something interesting becomes possible:

That same book can keep selling for years after you finish creating it.

That’s the part that got my attention.

Because most of us are taught to earn money like this:

Work → get paid → do the work again to get paid again.

Every paycheck requires another piece of your time.

With a book, you put your time into creating something you own.

Something useful that someone else can discover, buy, and benefit from, even when you’re busy doing something else.

That’s what makes it an asset.

You do the research. You create the book. You put it in a marketplace where people are already searching for what it offers.

Then you work on helping those people find it.

It takes some effort to get that right, of course.

But you’re putting that effort into something that can keep earning beyond the hours you spent building it, which is amazing.

And once you understand how to create one, you can build another.

Then another.

Each book gives another group of readers a reason to buy from you, and gives your publishing business another opportunity to earn.

Over time, those individual books become a catalog.

And there’s a very satisfying moment when you look at that catalog and realize:

You created some of those books months ago...

Yet someone could discover one for the first time today.

For them, it’s a new book. The answer to a problem they’re having right now.

For you, it’s work you’ve already done, still creating value.

Those books exist whether you’re working today or not!

People can still find them.

People can still buy them.

And they can still produce income.

That’s what we’re building here.

A catalog of useful books that you own, each with the potential to keep earning long after publication.

At that point, you’re no longer “trying KDP.”

You own real assets.

And that’s the whole game.
