Although I am not a chef but I am an inspiring one in my own kitchen. I cook, create, and refine food that touches my family’s SOul, is SIMple to make, and YUMmy to eat which equates to SoSimYum (Soul Food, Simple Food, and Yummy Food).
Cooking is my passion and I would like to share it with you. On this Youtube channel, you will find delicious food for every occasions, budgets, and times (dishes are as short as 10 minutes to as long as 3 hours). The saying goes ‘the way to a man heart is through his stomach. I strongly think that this quote also applies to women, our families, and friends 😊.

Hello Everyone! I hope you guys miss SoSimYum videos as much as I miss making them ❤️. It wasn't easy filming and editing a YouTube video in a small space but we did it. I used the word 'we' because my family plays a big role BTS for me to share my passion about homemade food. Imagine a small space with cameras, tripods, studio lights, cooking equipments, food props, etc. 🤦🏻♀️! This time around, I have stepped out of my comfort zone from iMovie to learn how to edit cooking videos in Final Cut Pro. OMG, there are so many advance features and I cannot wait to learn them.

Due to our recent move to a new state, I am unable to make new videos for Lunar New Year Food this year. However, I would like to share with you guys my last year video tutorial on how I made Square Sticky Rice Cakes especially the wrapping technique. I have been making Bánh Chưng when I was a teenager all the way to my middle age years and my favorite method to wrap the square sticky cakes is the one I shared on my YouTube channel. With that technique, we don’t have to buy long or wide banana leaves and it doesn’t require a lot of banana leaves to wrap the cake either.
Although the video I shared was in Vegan Version but you can use it for the Meat Version as well. For the meat version: You may replace 1/2 portion of mung bean with 3 long pieces of thick sliced pork belly w/out skin from Costco (1 slice is for 1 cake). Cut each slice into 3 to 4 pieces long, marinate the meat with 3/4 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp ground white pepper, 1/4 tsp Shiitake mushroom seasoning, 2 tsp fish sauce (3 crabs brand), 1 tbsp fried crispy shallots, 2 tsp fried crispy shallots oil, give a good mix to combine.
FYI: In the video, I also show you how to make the square mold using cardboard box if you don't have the wood mold. Written recipe for Bánh Chưng is in Asian Cooking & Recipes FB Group.
