The Pala Jubilee (പാലാ ജൂബിലി) is the most important annual celebration in Pala, Kottayam, bringing together thousands of people in a week of devotion, cultural activities, and community gatherings. This festival is closely connected with the Mother of the Cross feast at the historic St. Mary’s Shrine, widely known as Pala Kurishupalli. The event holds deep significance for the local community and remains the highlight of Pala’s festive calendar.

The origins of this celebration are tied to the remarkable story of the Kurishupalli. The foundation for the shrine’s crucifix was laid in 1953 by Mar Sebastian Vayal, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Pala. The design was prepared by Prince Albert Company, and construction was supervised by Maria Sousa of Takkala. The entire structure, carved completely from stone, took 23.5 years to complete. In 1977, the shrine was finally finished, marking the end of one of the region’s major religious construction efforts. The building stands 140 feet tall and is crowned by an impressive 12.5-foot Christ Raja figure, an iconic symbol for the faithful.
