Four "Anti" words in Biology that every student must know.
Antigen is a foreign substance that enters the body and triggers an immune response, leading to antibody formation. Example: proteins on COVID-19 virus.
Antibody is an immunoglobulin produced by B-lymphocytes in response to a specific antigen. Example: antibodies against tetanus toxin.
Antibiotic is a chemical substance produced by microorganisms that kills or inhibits the growth of other microorganisms. Example: penicillin from Penicillium.
Antidote is a substance that counteracts or neutralizes the effect of a poison. Example: anti-venom for snake bite.
