Welcome to my channel! I am a clinical pharmacist in Canada. I started this channel because I wanted to merge my creative side with my desire to share practical pharmacy tips. My goal is to empower students and clinicians to confidently assess patients' medication therapies in any setting. I share clinical pearls and thought processes that have worked for me in my videos. With the public accessibility of these videos, I hope to increase the transparency of the role of hospital pharmacists and empower the public with pharmacy/medication knowledge.

Please join me in our perpetual learning journey to be better practitioners and be pharmacy advocates ! #wedonotjustcountpills #pharmacyadvocacy #lifelongeducation

🧠 Understanding principles allow us to solve novel problems that fall within the same “category”. I find that many of life’s principles can also be applied to working in the healthcare field. Essentially, figuring out the principle requires us to dig into the “root” of the issue. When we truly understand the root cause of the patients’ issues (ie diagnosis) or the medical condition, it will allow us to better come up with a solution to address it (because we now understand it). 🧠 #foodforthought #principle #medicine #selfimprovement #quoteoftheday #problemsolving #lifehacks

Diagnosing minor ailments or figuring out the indications of medications require us to be a detective. 🔎 We need to shift our mindset of being detail-oriented to "bigger picture" thinkers 🌎

How to use an antibiogram: ⭐ Your local lab's antibiogram provides the antibiotic susceptibility profile of the bugs isolated from the lab over a specific period of time. ⭐ This is helpful to determine your list of available antibiotic options that would most likely be effective against the likely bug you are treating. ⭐ From this list of options, you can then pick the narrowest spectrum antibiotic that would be effective and safe for the infection that you are targeting (e.g. after considering site of penetration to the site of infection, patient contraindications, drug interactions, etc.)

💊 During Nov 18-24 of every year (i.e. World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness week), we try to raise awareness of how serious the threat of antibiotic resistance is to public health. 💊

🦠 When bugs are no longer effective against the antibiotics we have, it will threaten the success of modern medicine advances that we have achieved, such as surgery and chemotherapy. 🦠

Fortunately, we can fight this threat by reducing our use of antibiotics (that is...we only use it when we really need it). When bugs get exposed to antibiotics, they can develop resistance to it, making the antibiotic no longer effective against it. This is how we create "super bugs".

🌟 Let us all work together to be stewards of our antibiotic supply! 🌟
