Public Meeting held by Forest Department to address issues of khair growing farmers

A meeting was organized by the J&K Forest Department in Mawa Brahmana village of Akhnoor Tehsil to interact with khair growing farmers. Dr. V.S. Senthil Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Sh. Pradeepchandra Wahule, IFS, Conservator of Forests, East Circle, Jammu and Sh. Anurag Arya, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Jammu attended the meeting along with other IFS officers and staff of Kalidhar Range from the Department.
The farmers put forward several issues faced by them in the khair extraction approval process in the previous felling cycle. Problems such as lack of information, pendency at various levels and schedule of the 10-year felling cycle were raised by the farmers. Dr. V.S. Senthil Kumar and his team heard the farmers and assured that their issues would be looked into and suitable modifications adopted in the proposed new 10-year felling plan so that maximum farmers would reap benefits. He also outlined the current effort of the department to assess the Khair availability for the next plan. For this, the farmers were briefed about the field exercise that is going to be undertaken for the assessment wherein the farmers will self-report the number of trees, girth class wise, growing on their private lands.
The farmers were also given training on the measurement methods to report accurate figures. Dr. V.S. Senthil Kumar also instructed the field staff to assist the farmers in the assessment of khair growing on their lands. Forms for self-reporting the khair trees growing on private lands were distributed among farmers. It was also assured that public notices regarding the same would be put up in Panchayat ghars across the khair growing regions of Jammu province and copies of the forms will also be made available there. The farmers were advised to adhere to the deadline for submission of these forms which is 31 March 2026.
The meeting saw participation of farmers from Mawa Brahmana, Sungal, Lohara, Bisala and other villages of Akhnoor Tehsil. The farmers appreciated that the Department is conducting local level meetings to address their issues and hear their demands.
The 10 year khair felling program that started in 2016-17 is scheduled to conclude on 31.03.2026. The next felling program is expected to commence from 2027-28. The J&K Forest Department has begun work on formulation of the new felling program and this public meeting is a step in the same direction. The Department aims to balance economic benefits with khair preservation by ensuring systematic and sustainable extraction of khair trees.

जम्मू-कश्मीर वन विभाग ने अखनूर तहसील के मावा ब्राह्मणा गांव में खैर उगाने वाले किसानों से बातचीत करने के लिए एक मीटिंग का आयोजन किया। इस मीटिंग में डॉ. वी.एस. सेंथिल कुमार, भा व स, चीफ कंजर्वेटर ऑफ फॉरेस्ट, जम्मू, श्री प्रदीपचंद्र वाहुले, भा व स, कंजर्वेटर ऑफ फॉरेस्ट, ईस्ट सर्कल, जम्मू और श्री अनुराग आर्य, भा व स, डिविजनल फॉरेस्ट ऑफिसर, जम्मू के साथ-साथ विभाग के अन्य भा व स अधिकारी और कलिधार रेंज के स्टाफ भी शामिल हुए।
किसानों ने पिछले कटाई योजना में खैर निकालने की मंज़ूरी प्रक्रिया में आने वाली कई समस्याओं को सामने रखा। किसानों ने जानकारी की कमी, अलग-अलग स्तर पर लंबित काम और 10-साल की कटाई योजना की अनुसूची, जैसी समस्याओं को उठाया। डॉ. वी.एस. सेंथिल कुमार और उनकी टीम ने किसानों की बात सुनी और भरोसा दिलाया कि उनकी समस्याओं पर ध्यान दिया जाएगा और प्रस्तावित नई 10-साल की कटाई योजना में ज़रूरी बदलाव किए जाएंगे ताकि ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा किसानों को फायदा हो। उन्होंने अगले प्लान के लिए खैर की उपलब्धता का आकलन करने के लिए विभाग के मौजूदा प्रयासों के बारे में भी बताया। इसके लिए, किसानों को उस फील्ड एक्सरसाइज के बारे में बताया गया जो आकलन के लिए की जाएगी, जिसमें किसान अपनी निजी ज़मीनों पर उगने वाले पेड़ों की संख्या, मोटाई के हिसाब से खुद बताएंगे।
किसानों को सही आंकड़े रिपोर्ट करने के लिए नाप-जोख के तरीकों की ट्रेनिंग भी दी गई। डॉ. वी.एस. सेंथिल कुमार ने फील्ड स्टाफ को किसानों को उनकी ज़मीनों पर उगने वाले खैर के पेड़ों का आकलन करने में मदद करने का निर्देश भी दिया। किसानों के बीच निजी ज़मीनों पर उगने वाले खैर के पेड़ों की सेल्फ-रिपोर्टिंग के लिए फॉर्म बांटे गए। यह भी भरोसा दिलाया गया कि जम्मू प्रांत के खैर उगाने वाले इलाकों के पंचायत घरों में इस बारे में पब्लिक नोटिस लगाए जाएंगे और फॉर्म की कॉपी भी वहां उपलब्ध कराई जाएंगी। किसानों को इन फॉर्म को जमा करने की आखिरी तारीख 31 मार्च 2026 तक पालन करने की सलाह दी गई।
इस मीटिंग में मावा ब्राह्मणा, सुंगल, लोहारा, बिसाला और अखनूर तहसील के दूसरे गांवों के किसानों ने हिस्सा लिया। किसानों ने इस बात की तारीफ़ की कि डिपार्टमेंट उनकी समस्याओं को सुलझाने और उनकी मांगों को सुनने के लिए लोकल लेवल पर मीटिंग कर रहा है।
2016-17 में शुरू हुआ 10 साल का खैर पेड़ काटने का प्रोग्राम 31.03.2026 को खत्म होने वाला है। अगला पेड़ काटने का प्रोग्राम 2027-28 से शुरू होने की उम्मीद है। J&K वन विभाग ने नया पेड़ काटने का प्रोग्राम बनाने पर काम शुरू कर दिया है और यह पब्लिक मीटिंग इसी दिशा में एक कदम है।

Jaipur Pink Panthers Coach to Train J&K Kabaddi Men’s Team: Dr Kuldeep Gupta

Jammu: In a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening the competitive profile of kabaddi in Jammu & Kashmir, the J&K Sports Council, in collaboration with the J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association, has engaged Vinod Kumar, renowned coach of Pro Kabaddi League franchise Jaipur Pink Panthers, to train and mentor the J&K Men’s Kabaddi Team ahead of upcoming national-level competitions.

The induction of a Pro Kabaddi League coach marks a significant step towards professionalising training methodologies, scientific talent identification, and high-performance preparation of kabaddi players from the Union Territory. The initiative focuses on systematic scouting, nurturing, and selection of promising youth, with the larger objective of creating a strong pool of athletes capable of competing at the national stage and securing podium finishes.

Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, while welcoming the collaboration, said that exposure to elite-level coaching will be instrumental in elevating the standard of kabaddi in the region. She emphasised that the Sports Council remains committed to providing quality infrastructure, expert coaching, and competitive platforms to athletes across disciplines, ensuring that talent from Jammu & Kashmir is able to realise its full potential.

Dr Kuldeep Gupta, General Secretary, J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association, along with coach Vinod Kumar, called on the Secretary, J&K Sports Council, and discussed a comprehensive roadmap for kabaddi development in the UT. During the interaction, Vinod Kumar expressed satisfaction over the tremendous growth of sports infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir, noting that improved facilities and institutional support have created a conducive environment for high-performance sports.

Dr Kuldeep Gupta stated that, with the sustained support of the J&K Sports Council, the Association would intensify efforts to identify and groom emerging kabaddi talent from across the districts. He added that the initiative aligns with the national vision of Viksit Bharat, where sports play a pivotal role in youth empowerment, discipline, and nation-building.

The collaboration is expected to not only improve immediate competitive outcomes but also lay a strong foundation for the long-term growth of kabaddi in Jammu & Kashmir by bridging grassroots talent with professional expertise and modern training systems.

J&K ACB registers FIR against Mohd Hanif, Patwari, Halqa Tikri, Udhampur for demanding and accepting bribe of ₹17,000

Anti Corruption Bureau received a written complaint wherein the complainant has alleged that despite compliance with all the rules/ formalities to undertake construction of the house, the employee of Revenue Department namely Mohd Hanif, Halqa Patwari Tikri, started demanding an illegal gratification initially ₹30,000 and then finally settled for ₹ 17,000 in lieu of allowing the construction work and also threatened the complainant that he will not allow them to lay lanter until the bribe amount is paid to him.

The complainant, stating that he is against corruption, has approached ACB Jammu seeking legal action against the accused official.

On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand of bribe by the accused public servant.
Accordingly, Case FIR No. 01/2026 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted which laid a trap. The accused Mohd. Hanif (Patwari) has demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹17,000 from the complainant in presence of the witnesses. Subsequently, bribe amount was recovered from his office and meanwhile the accused Patwari managed to fled away from the spot.

Further, search of the accused and the investigation is going on.
