Defence personnel and industry specialists gathered in South Australia early in December at the Cultana urban training facility to assess a number of counter-uncrewed aircraft systems (CUAS) during Exercise Southern Arrow 🏹

Combined strike capability on show 👊💢

The Australian Army, US Army and US Air Force demonstrated a new capability as part of 2025's Exercise Kenney Strikes Back.

Multiple high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) from 10th Brigade’s 14th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery (14 Regt, RAA), were loaded onto USAF C-17 Globemaster IIIs, operated by 62nd Airlift Wing.

The HIMARS, along with Australian Army Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles and US Army MRZR all-terrain vehicles, were transported from RAAF Base Amberley to far-north Queensland and the south coast of NSW before rapidly establishing communications, simulating a fire mission and re-loading onto the C-17s for a quick exit. 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

From bases across Australia to overseas deployments, Military Working Dogs (MWDs) make up a vital portion of the Royal Australian Air Force. Together with their handlers, MWDs provide:

🔒 Security
🛑 Crime prevention patrols
🚨 Emergency response
👀 Intruder detection

Behind the scenes, handlers dedicate themselves to daily care – feeding, grooming, and maintaining kennels, while also upholding a high standard of fitness and training, including regular testing to ensure they are ready to deploy at a moment's notice.
