The Australian Government has accepted a generous offer from the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Jose Ramos-Horta, to expand the eligibility criteria of the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal.

Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and veterans, and Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers who served at least 30 days on mandated missions in Timor-Leste since 1999 will now be eligible. This includes those withdrawn due to injury or medical necessity and uniformed members of the Defence Cooperation Program and Timor-Leste Police Development Program.

On 25 April, Australians will reflect on the contribution made by all service personnel, who have displayed great courage, discipline and self-sacrifice in choosing a life of service to their country. 

This year marks the 111th anniversary of Anzac Day, commemorating the landing of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers on Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.

Cadets take on the Harbour

Australian Navy Cadets from across the country recently attended the 2026 Australian Navy Cadets Fleet Engagement Camp, immersing themselves in a week of hands-on maritime experiences on Sydney Harbour.
 
The program provided cadets with unique exposure to the Royal Australian Navy and key maritime partners, including the Australian National Maritime Museum and NSW Police Marine Area Command. Activities ranged from overnight embarkations on HMAS Choules and tours of HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Canberra, to high-speed Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) rides, aviation demonstrations by an MH‑60R Seahawk, and insights into clearance diving and mine warfare operations.

Aircraft of the past

The Royal Australian Air Force was proud to support the 2026 ANZAC Week Air Show at West Sale airport with a range of exciting flyovers and ground displays. 100 Squadron warbirds were a crowd favourite with flying displays by the second oldest DH82A Tiger Moth aircraft, as well as displays by the heritage CAC CA-18 Mustang and CAC Winjeel aircraft.

Triservice team strengthens border security 🛡️💪

Members of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force deployed as Transit Security Element (TSE) Rotation 119 in support of maritime security operations under Operation Resolute.

Commanded by Lieutenant Commander Stacy Craigie, the triservice team operates alongside Navy and Australia Border Force vessels.

“Operation Resolute brings together an integrated force, providing Army and Air Force members the opportunity to experience life at sea alongside their Navy colleagues,” Lieutenant Commander Craigie said.

The Buffalo returns home 🐃✈️

More than 80 years after its formation, the 'Buffalo' call sign has returned home to the Royal Australian Air Force's No. 12 Squadron at 📍 RAAF Base Edinburgh.

With its return, the Buffalo emblem will now appear on the squadron’s P-8A Poseidon aircraft – the first of which was painted last month – linking the unit’s heritage with its modern maritime mission.

The team that supports Australian Army’s aircrews 📻🚁

An Aviation Operations Specialist (AOS) is a part of a skilled team responsible for coordinating and managing the logistics and operational support required for Army helicopter missions.

With the steady increase in rotary-wing aircraft being delivered to the ADF, Army Aviation is investing considerable effort into attracting new recruits to support this rapidly growing capability.

Sergeant Myfanwy Ransley, of the Townsville-based 5th Aviation Regiment, who has worked as an AOS for the past eight years, said it was like spinning six plates at once.

The Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Toowoomba recently conducted a High Seas Firing of their 5 inch/54 Calibre Mk 45 Mod 2 Naval Artillery Gun during her Regional Presence Deployment throughout 📍 East and Southeast Asia.

HMAS Toowoomba will be conducting operations, exercises and other engagements with Australia’s regional partners throughout her Regional Presence Deployment as well as demonstrating Australia’s commitment to, and engagement with, the region.
