In 2021, we began homesteading on 40+ acres in the Allegheny Mountain range of the Appalachians in West Virginia. We are following our dream of becoming much more self-reliant and taking back control of where our food comes from while connecting with the land and animals that provide for us.

There's a LOT of cool stuff coming up. We have many things in the works behind the scenes, and new videos and fun updates are in the works and coming soon!
Have nothing better to do tonight, Saturday the 31st? Well, starting at 6pm EST, I will be livestreaming something insanely crazy. I am going to attempt to complete the world's hardest climbing challenge by attempting virtual "Everesting" on my indoor bike.
What does that mean? I am going to attempt to climb the height of Everest - 29,029 feet in one ride. You read that right. I will be doing repeats of a mountain that takes over an hour for me to ride up - then coast back down. And then I do it all again... 8.5 times to be exact. It will be BRUTAL with an average grade of 8.5%. (And for those of you wondering, yes, the indoor trainer does simulate the actual grade of the climb in reality.)
Even with all the overnight ultra races I have done with crazy elevation gain, this is going to be the hardest thing I have ever attempted to do. Can I do it? I actually don't know. But I will give it all I have got!
Come hang out in the livestream chat to find out and see Miss Kaja! I'll be in the chat to hang out with you guys when I'm not dying, haha. It will probably take me 16+ hours to complete this challenge. I hope to be done by 10am EST Sunday, but we shall see!
If you are on Zwift, I'd be happy to have your company. You'll be able to find me: TaraLynn (Last Name)vEveresting

Wow, what a day yesterday! I completed my first 100-mile bike ride indoors. (The total ride was actually 129.4 miles as explained below due to a bit of a snafu.)
Special thanks to @silkwind for staying with me for the entire ride, encouraging me, and moderating the chat. Also, a huge thanks to family, friends, and everyone of you who joined me in the live chat and kept me company, cheered me on, made me smile, and laugh! You all really helped me get through the ride and kept things entertaining! It was so much fun to hang out with you guys! And thank you to my wonderful friend, Kris, who took some time out of his day to ride with me!
The ride started out smooth and easy. I was holding a great pace and feeling strong. Just after mile 29, I made a mistake which resulted in my ride ending - resetting my mileage to ZERO. Frustrated but utterly determined, I had two choices: ride the last 71 miles needed to get a total of 100 or start all over at zero and ride to 100.
I quickly made the decision to start all the way over which would result in me actually having to ride 129 miles in total. Why would I do that? Because I wanted the ride to be counted in one single activity so I could get credit for the 100 miles in Zwift (the cycling platform). Seems silly, but getting my badge for 100 miles was a motivation for the ride to begin with. If the ride were in two pieces (29 miles and 71 miles), it wouldn't be counted as a 100-mile ride!
Those last 15 miles were a little tough! But through great company and a cold beer waiting at the end, I pushed through to 100. It was so great! Next time... maybe 200 miles and continue working my way up to a 24-hour ride eventually!
On to recovery and getting ready for planting season and all kinds of exciting things ahead on the homestead!
Love and hugs, my friends!

Due to unforeseen events 😕 I was unable to get a video out this weekend. But next week I will be able to have it up! In the meantime, don't forget that you can catch me on livestream today, Saturday the 22nd at 6pm EST for 6-8 hours as I make my way to my first 100-mile bike ride. I will actively be in the chat and looking forward to having some like-minded company! In fact, I would love to hear some of your stories!
So if you are a late nighter or live in Australia 😂, jump in the livestream and say "Hi," and chat for a bit! Kaja will be there as well to grace us with her presence and ask for many treats!
I finished my large 3x2 ft painting this week. It's coming in a video soon, but I was too excited to wait to tell you all. So, here's a photo.
See you all soon! Stay healthy and happy!
Love you all! 💕

Saturday, March 22 I will be livestreaming my first 100-mile bike ride (on my indoor trainer). I will be playing music you'll recognize from the channel during my ride for fun! I know that this probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, so don't be mad at me if you get the notification I'm live, and I'm "just" riding my bike 😂 BUT, I will be available in the live chat to hang out during the entire ride and ready to chat, answer questions, and just chill with any of you that want to tune in while I am riding.
I just thought this would be fun to share, since this is the kind of stuff I do when I'm not homesteading! I am a former record-setting semi-professional ultrarunner who ran distances over 100 miles. But since my second laparotomy, running has been very uncomfortable. So I have done the "unthinkable" and got on a bike, because we do what we can. Now it's time to see what is possible on a bike! New journey. Always keep your head high.
I won't have voice chat, because for instant replies, writing is better since there is a delay to the livestream implemented by YouTube. But if this is something anyone would appreciate if I do any future livestreams, I can implement voice.
**If you are a Zwifter, look for Tara Lynn in the "currently Zwifting" and you can ride with me at any point!
The time for the livestream to start is 6pm EST, Saturday, March 22 and will run for approximately 6-8 hours depending on how often I need to stop for Quinn and/or Kaja (should be minimal).
I will be mentioning this in my video coming out Friday along with our VERY BIG announcement.
Hope to see some of you there to keep me company, and hope you are all wonderful and well!
Love and hugs my friends 💕

Hoping to have a video up this weekend! It’s been quite the recovery and still so long to go! But between my family and you guys, the outpouring of love and support has made this a breeze!
I MISS YOU ALL! I’ve read every comment!

Home. There’s nothing like it. The smell of fresh rain, the chirping birds, the frogs, the crickets, the distant coyotes…. The cast-iron steak, homemade wine, and a puppy who looks at you the first day you wake up at home, “are you going to leave me again?!”
I don’t know what’s better than this, and I feel sadness for people who never get to experience the beauty of a life in nature.
I’m home. Now I take a few days to get a little strength back. Thank you all for helping me along this difficult journey. I will see you very soon. There’s a lot I have to share!
Hugs to you all! 🤗

Day 8! NG tube is out, I’m eating solid foods finally, and slowly healing. Really hoping I can go home in the next 48 hours 🙏
I’m shocked and utterly ashamed at how unhealthy the food they give patients in hospitals is. It is a travesty!
I forget how disgusting the food supply has gotten until I’m forced to experience it. Makes me appreciate the life we choose to live all that much more when I see this abomination. This is food that’s supposed to help people get better?! Are you kidding me?

Recovery from my laparotomy and bowel resection is moving along nicely my nurses and doctor say, but it feels so slow! I am doing short walks and can have tea with ice now!
Pain makes even the smallest tasks challenging. It’s amazing how many things we do that you’d never think use our abs!
We still don’t know when I can go home yet. We have to wait on all the, uh, plumbing to start working again. But there’s no progress in that department yet. Soon, I hope 🙏
Glenn and I were treated to a couple beautiful rainbows 🌈 from my hospital room window today! It felt very special after how scary this all was!
Thank you all SO MUCH for the wonderful supportive comments, prayers, and encouragement! It’s all so very appreciated at a time like this! Hope you are all well, my friends! ❤️ 🤗 🌈

My second day racing to plant the garden didn’t go as planned! 😞 I came down with extreme belly pain, and Glenn, my husband, took me to the ER where I had emergency exploratory surgery (a laparotomy).
They discovered my entire right colon was “dead” and 20% of my large intestine had to be removed.
This was a complication from a surgery I had back in 2012 for a perforated bowel.
I have a very long recovery ahead and will keep you posted with more details to come. Right now I need some sleep; I just had surgery yesterday afternoon.
Hope you are all well, my friends! 💕 🤗
