I took a break from painting in Jan and early Feb mostly and come back with renewed energy to paint. One of the things that I have loved is using The Army Painter new Fanatic paints. I have a very good selection of paints and it takes a very good product to get me hyped now. In walks fanatics and damn there awesome!!!
I have a big selection of pro acrylic and ak 3rd gen paints arguably best out there. Well that was until I tried TAP’s Fanatic paints. I have not seen the paints split or separate once in my time of using them. This happens even with ak 3rd gen paints. The coverage is insane. Like one coat coverage even when thinned a little, crazy good. Consistency is really nice. Not to thick or thin just perfect. Enabling dry brush techniques or thinning for glazes ect. I have only tried a small range unfortunately but every single colour in that range has been exceptionally great.
Even the brush on primer is superb. I have switched to using it for priming small character models with a brush rather than airbrush priming. Saves me a trip to my loft lol.
I like how the paints are not ultra Matt and have a very slight satin sheen too. This does 2 things to my knowledge. It gives a more vibrant finish. As the more Matt the paint the more chalky it becomes. Scale color paints are a good example of this. 2nd a more satin finish should result in tough paint that does not chip or scratch as easily.
The only one time out of all the paints I tried was there new dark tone wash it dried a little glossy however I’m pretty damn sure that’s because I never shook the bottle which is very important to do with washes. So more likely user error than paint error.
So long story short if you hated the original tap warpaints do not let that put you off there new fanatic paints I swear and promise the difference in quality is night and day!!!
Lastly don’t take my word for it if you’re on the fence or scared of these not meeting your expectations. Try one or two bottles and I will be super surprised if you don’t come back to purchase more.
The Army Painter Fanatic paints starter set review
I have had the great privilege to test the new Army painter Fanatic warpaints. The verdict……THE BEST HOBBY PAINTS I HAVE EVER USED BY A MILE!!!!
I have been painting for about 3 decades on and off and for the last 2 decades very regular. I have tested many, many paint brands over the years and thought I had some great paints until I tried Fanatic from TAP! The coverage is absolutely insane. The consistency absolutely perfect. The results exceptionally great. Painting with these new fanatic paints is just a pure joy. Honestly I can’t emphasise enough how awesome they are.
I would love to pick a point I could criticise them on but I can’t. Genuinely think TAP have some how managed to create paint that’s is perfect for the novice hobbyist by giving one coat coverage pretty much from all paints and the quality of product for experts to excell with.
I honestly can’t see any other company topping this paints anytime soon. If by some miracle they do, it will be self painting, paint or something crazy as these fantastic paints are just perfect in every way.
So long story short if you use gw paints or other brands and not happy with results. Switch to these paints you will never ever look back!!!
I had to test the Life Color Lichen and Moss set asap as it looks awesome. So here is my thoughts
It contains powder textures and 2 liquid fixers a dark green plus bright green.
I applied a little of the light green fixer to the barrels and and then with a small dry brush loaded up the textured powders. I then gently tapped the brush making the powder fall onto the fixer and seriously that’s it, job done!!’ That simple, that easy!!!
I think the effect looks awesome and adds a really cool bit of narrative and colour to this base.
This set is absolutely perfect for the beginner and in the hands of an expert can get real life like results. Super impressed with the set!
